I have read about decoding engines from other discussions here and I am sort of confused by some of the numbers that are on my passenger side alternator stamp pad on my 1969 Camaro Z-28 X-11 Clone...
First set,
T0105HC
I decoded as Tonawanda, Jan 5th, 1965 327c.i., powerglide,275h.p.,full size
or it could be a 1969 350 c.i., m/t, 250h.p., A F X
What the heck is "A F X"?
Car was sold to me saying it had a 1969 327c.i. (car originally had L-6)

Next set of numbers,
8Y15046C
I have know idea what these are...any help???

Next set almost hidden by passenger side head is
BBOGS
any suggestions on these...

Also, the car was suppose to have the heavy duty, 202 heads...any way to tell that by the outside or do you have to remove the valve cover to decode that???

T0105HC =

T = Tonawanda Engine Plant
0105 = Jan 5th
HC = was used across the Chevrolet line in a few years.

What is the casting number on the drivers side, back bellhousing flange of the block?

8Y15046C is probably 8Y150460

8 = 1968 model year
Y = Wilmington Delaware Assy Plant (they built Full size Chevrolets)
150460 =last 6 digits of the VIN of the car this engine came out of.

HC code in 68 was Fullsize Chevrolet with 327/275hp with powerglide trans

Confirm with engine casting number

Model codes (only Chevy listed)
A Body - Chevelle
B Body - Full Size, Impala etc
F Body - Camaro
X Body - ChevyII/Nova

Next set of numbers,
8Y15046C

This is the CON VIN (confidential VIN derivative). This is how they convicted you of receiving a stolen engine so the casting number is meanless.

Probably a rebuilder's code.

Thanks for your help..I will try to get casting number and post it...I am disappointed in myself for thinking it probably was a 69 327, however, it may be a 69 350...guess the casting number will decide what it really is...
