This is way off topic for this board but I have nowhere to turn. I picked up a 1996 Mustang 5.0/5 speed for free. The problem is I can't get it to stay running. She will run with the key in the on position but once I let it go she shuts off.

Any help will be apprieciated.

Junk it, thats my advice! no but seriously why was it free there had to be something major wrong with it????

If it starts and runs with the key in the 'crank' mode and then shuts down in the 'run' mode ( as I read your post ...) - then the problem is at the ignition switch or in the wiring from the switch to the dist.
During crank the power to the dist is from the starter/solenoid circuit - during run it is from the ignition switch.

LOL, the car was my cousins'. His mother wanted it out the yard so I took it. Hey, if I can clean it up, get it running I can sell it for a few bucks so I can finish my 67 camaro.

and that would be my guess for the blue book value on a 96 mustang;) , at least you want to get rid of it fast and I hope we can help so you can turn that car in to Camaro bucks.
