Hi fellas,
I started my frame off of my 69 RS/SS. The entire front clip is apart every bolt has been cataloged and stored. The subframe is completely disassembled and out of the car. There isn't any rust if you can believe that, so I'm wondering what I should do now. TIA! Scott

Start by having the sub frame sand or media blasted. Then either paint or powder coat to the finish you like and go from there.

psalm69, check around for a powder coater that sand blasts too. I have a powder coater that does beautiful work for about the same cost as just sand blasting and the paint would cost.

Powder coating is so cool. You bring them the rusty, greasy sub frame and drop it off. Pick it up the next day, totally cured and stick it in your truck for about $175.00. You just can't beat it.

Heck, the primer and paint would cost a hundred!

No rust! Are you sure it is a Camaro http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif ! Just ribbing you, really that is great news. This should make your restoration much easier. I would follow the above advice and get everything media blasted and coated while its apart!

I am a little further along. What I did from your point was remove brake and fuel line and clean and paint floor pan and fire wall. Oh , I did remove the complete interior so there was nothing sticking out of the firewall at all. This is definitly the time to do the underside, there is nothing in the way. I also fixed a couple pinhole rust spots on interior floor pan (minor) with POR15. I then coated floor with a light coat of truck bed liner spray, I like this stuff. Not original, but its under carpet and I'm not concerned about that issue. I kinda smoothed my fire wall a little as I installed my Vintage Air bulk head, I didn't use the whole bulkhead they supply that fills the heater box hole, I only used the part where the hoses come through, smoothed the rest.
Gotta go,
Guy

Thanks for the advise. I was planning to do just that with respect to the subframe. I'll prolly paint it I really want that original look. Now as far as the body goes. Would you guys just start sanding by hand or use an other method. And what about the front fenders which are off the car. Any thoughts?

NHRA1877, I have never had them do just a clip but if a whole "A" body frame is $350.00 that clip should be no more than $175.00. I did find that they were the lowest price around by far. I had my iron bed (we are talking antqiue iron bed you sleep on) for $110.00 now I know that was a deal because the manager was a fellow Gran Sport owner, but he said normally it would be $150.00. It was about thirty miles from my home so I called around to the closer shops. They were as high as $350.00 with NO sandblasting!

They did my brothers whole 1948 Harley, every single "hard part", no chrome on the bike. Springer forks, frame, handle bars, and boxes of brakets and things, $500.00. It was so cool to drop it off, go out on a drive and then return to remove them (still very warm) and put them in the truck and back seat and drive home, neat stuff.

They are called Poly Enginering in Richmond Ca if you know anyone near there that can use them.
