: Rust Treatment in Hidden Areas

Has anyone used products such as Permatex "Extend" or Dupli-Color "Rust Stop" to treat surface rust? It converts and seals the rust turning it into a black oxide primer. It seems to work OK on the areas I have used it on.

I'm using in those in the areas I can't get to with POR 15 such as inside the cowl area, down the sides where the doors attach, etc.
I connected some 1/8" flexible plastic tubing to the spray nozzle and dropped the tubing down to the bottom of the fender area inside the cowl.
As I spray, the end of the tubing dances around and seems of cover most of the area.
I know this can't be as effective as getting POR 15 in these areas, but I don't have a way to get anything else down in these hidden areas, and this has to be better than leaving it rusty. (I hope).

This is light surface rust; just want to stop it from getting worse!

So far the results look promising; only time will tell.

Any experiences out there?

Thanks
Joe

Why could you not do the same thing with the POR15?

For hard to reach areas I use Eastwood spray Corroless in the same manner you described.

When I bought my 67 about 13 years ago, I treated surface rust in the areas you are decribing. It was some product in a spray can, I think it was Extend or something just like it. The areas are still pretty much black and I see no signs of the rust coming through.

Thanks for the replies.
I don't have a sprayer. Does Corroless come in a spray can? I have not seen this product available around here.
I can't use POR15 for the same reason. I need something I can drop a tube down behind the cowl.

Thanks
Joe

Yes, you can order the Corroless in spray cans. I don't have a sprayer either so I brush on POR15 and spray Corroless depending on access.

I'm not a bodyman but I've been an industrial painter for 15 years. Frazee Paints sells a rust converter called Jasco Prep and Prime. Its a green watery liquid. I put it in a small garden sprayer with a spray wand to reach all those impossible spots. Its very effective....Just cover your concrete floor, Jasco will stain it.
