Please Help
My 91 Camaro rs,3.1 V6 was running rough and I had a slight missfire in the engine, I also had a broken screw in the distributor cap so this is what I did, I ordered a used distributor put that in and could not start it. So I replaced the coil with a new one, I was able to time it at 10 btdc, However now it runs smooth for a minute or 2 and then starts miss firing, it even turns its self off just like I was to turn the key off, I also noticed that the Tach is jumping when the miss fire occurs,

I tried the old coil and it did the same thing. I also tried using a jumper cable from the neg bat terminal to several different spots on the engine.

I was told that this sounds like a ground issue. Its seems like it just starts to cut off spark and then just turns off spark altogether, The engine just not shake prior to shutting off just shuts off.

After it turns off it I just start it back up and it will mis fire for a minute or to and then just shut back off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there some type of relay that when its heats up it will trip and turn all the spark off or is there a possible vaccum lock that turns the car off ?

Has the "check engine" light on or has it been on? have you scaned it for any trouble codes?

No unfortunately when I bought the car most of the dash lights are burnt out and I had to steal some from my alert lights in order to see the other gauges. I have not tried any codes because I have no machine to read them. Is there an Ignition relay?

Was the replacement dist the same as your old one? Does the security light come on? (the only thing I know of that turns off spark) Have you checked fuel pressure? Might try your question at www.chevytalk.com as they are more into late models.

The security light comes on. I tested the ignition hot wire to the coil today and it remained hot even after the engine just shut down. The fuel pump makes the charging noise but can there be a relay on this, were it would just shut of the pump. but it does not act like its starving for fuel before just turning off.
