Hey Guys,
what's the best way to take off the ball joints yourself on the a-arms. I'm having the a-arms powder coated so I was told to take out the ball joints.

TIA
Marcus

Grind off the original rivet heads or chisel them out. Grinding the heads is quicker. The new ball joints will come with bolts and nuts.

So do I need to press them out, or hammer them out?

the lower ball joints are pressed in. I wouldn't hammer them out, might distort the a-arm.
The uppers are riveted or bolted as said above.

I just had mine done. I saved the upper joint as it was tight, so I blasted the a-arm, painted it, had new bushings pressed in, and then painted it a second time. Looks nice. On the lower, had all the bushings and lower joints pressed out, had them powdercoated, (bores masked), and then had the bushings and lower joints pressed in. You will have scratches and chips, so be prepared for it. A proper press with tools and care will reduce the possibility, but just make sure everything is pressed in correctly and completely. My lowers were gloss black, so a simple touch up is easy. In a year or so, you'll be doing it again anyway.

ChuckD,
Where did you buy your replacements and how much can I expect to pay for them?
