I'm straightening the doors on the bench after fixing some rust. Trying to get the skin shaped as close to 'right' as I can before fitting them with the fenders and quarters for final shaping.
Is the door skin flat from front to back horizontally? If I layed a straight edge horizontally against the door skin that was the length of the door, would it touch the skin all the way from edge to edge? Or is there any sort of curve(s) at ANY point, such as where they meet the fenders and quarters? I'm dragging a 12" straight edge along the skin in different places as I shape but it's inconsistant at the front and rear edges. They're sort of curved in.
It's tough enough getting the factory contours right, let alone the edges where they'll meet the rest of the sheetmetal.
Like I said, I want to get them as close as I can while on the bench before fitting everything and then slathering more "shaping substance" on them.
;)
