Anybody out there ever mini-tub a convertible ??? i Just did the DSE tubs in a '68 and was wondering what people do with the two rear rods that fold the top down. They hit the widened wheel well when top is nearing the down position. It appears i might just be able to make two SLIGHTLY different rods but that might throw off the geometry or something. Anybody..........

I will need to see what hapened, I answered that for Lisa and she should have e mailed you. I am going to have to spank her! I'll do that now and ask her about your email in the morning, LOL!

We have a front and rear kit that will work with 11 3/4" front and a 12" rear with internal drum e brake.

How certain... oh nevermind hijacking this post, we'll deal with it over there, send me an email. Jim

Frank,

Can the support member behind the rear seat be shortened to fit between the mini tubs? I suppose this is a major structural member for the car. Are there any other structual considerations when mini tubbing a convertible.

Thanks Rich

It has to be shortened, problem is that piece is 3 layers of super structure. So when it is compromised, you reall need to beef the car back up. We back brace ours with hidden back braces of the roll bar. Petes Camaro, the yellow one on my site shows it pretty well

Frank,

I see what you mean, just one more question. Those back braces are roll bar tubing, I see the front tied to the main hoop, where is the back side tied too. Is it attached to the DSE shock cross member or do they go back further? BTW you guys do great work, my folks live in new symerna beach, the next time Im there I want to come out and visit you and your shop.

Thanks Rich

The back braces go accross the wheel tubs, weld to them, then continue back to on top of the rear spring mount

Whew!

Hey Frank, glad to see you have solution to a pesky problem!

I sold the coupe project recently and got myself a 63 000 miles one owner 69. The fun part is that the car was in Toronto, Canada (for me who is Canadian and living in Montreal, it meant no customs to deal with!!!)

I got everything, original bill of sale, protecto plate, maintenance records, name it!

It is presently Azure Turquoise (original colour and had only one repaint in '78 + was stored since 1982....) with a black power top and black std interior.

I sold the coupe shell and all the new sheetmetal i had bought for it but kept my 12 bolt LS1 and 345-25-20 tires :D ...I really look forward to winter.

I plan on using DSE's Quadra link but might use Air Rides Shock waves....Any comments here???

I might fully tub it to the frame tough (read; sheetmetal tubs). I've read if i want it low i might have a problem with the tires hitting the outer wheelhouse preventing full drop. What do you think?

Will your rod clear anything or if its made for 'DSE like' minitub jobs?
To be honest its my first convertible and i didn't even have the time to get in the trunk yet (had the car about 3 weeks now). I took the top motor out and ordered a new one as it worked two times before seizing permanently....I'm also waiting for new oil lines in the same shipment.(hey, i'm there...)

Will you make more of your magic rods after the first batch? I'd order them this winter when i'm ready, but i don't want to miss out either!!!

Thanks,

Lead.

Sounds like a cool project. Whew!

I just do not have any personal experiance with th air ride stuff to speak on it. You and I both know how much they like it on the other hardcore forums, but I hear conflicting information from other sources, namely magazine test and product suppliers. Of coarse i would expect that. So in summary, why don't you try it and let me know how it works, LOL!

All cars that have quarter panels that curve inward at the top of the panel will suffer from the same problem. The tire will only go so high and then it hits the outer panel. ProStreet cars suffer from this badly. You will notice a lot of Pro Street cars have the wheels moved inward a lot making them look funny, like it is a mistake. Pro Touring cars look extra bad this way. One way to help that problem is to use a independant rear (read Project prodigy Here) then as the rear travels up the tire top of the tire will go inward (cmaber gain) and help clear the outer wheelhouse. Then build the inner wheelhouses and angle the inside of them inward at the tops. Perfect for a bag car! We you not doing a C4 rear before? With 345s?

Will your rod clear anything or if its made for 'DSE like' minitub jobs?

They will help with any tubs, even prostreet tubs but not as much

Will you make more of your magic rods after the first batch? I'd order them this winter when i'm ready, but i don't want to miss out either!!!

Get them now, hurry, last ones ever, don't miss out!

Just kidding, I love pressure saleman. They will be a stock item for us, don't order them until you need them

Thanks,

You got me for a long sec there....:clonk:

Thanks for the reply. I really might take you up on the air suspension.

About the C4, its a friend of mine who was doing that project. He sold all of his stuff and is now ordering an Art Morrison G-Max.

I'll get in touch when ready, meanwhile i subscribed at GPS and saw many interesting purchase groups!!!! I joined 3 last night i think!

Thanks again!
