I need to paint my fuel tank and I am not sure of what color to paint it. There is a bit of overspray from the last guys paint job. I was thinking of the Eastwood zinc coating but I am looking for opinions and ideas.
Thanks

Rustoleum makes a "Hammered Metal" silver paint that kind of looks like galvanized. Or just a dull aluminum color.

I painted my previous camaro's gas tank with that Eastwood's Tank Tone. I was very dissapointed after spending all that time scraping the undercoating off and cleaning w/wax & grease remover. The original plating on the tank is almost a shiny "chrome" color. The Eastwood's stuff turned it into a satin aluminum. Next car I'm giving the tank the same cleaning treatment, then finish with a clear.

When I put a new gas tank in the 69, I clear coated the zinc coating so it won't corrode.

My tank was dented, scratched and discolored underneath a layer of old undercoating. I stripped the tank with aircraft stripper and primed/ painted it black since that what was on hand at the time. Not technically correct but my car is a hot rod anyway.

I used the Eastwood Tank Tone, and was very satisfied with the results. It covers well and doesn't smudge like a lot of silver paints. Remember that no paint is going to look just like galvanized metal, with all it's "snowflake" shaped plating migrations that give it that appearance. So if you are really hung up on appearance, I'd just replace the tank with a new one. They are pretty cheap nowadays. Just my $.02 - Rob

A quick update...
I tried a couple of colors on the tank today and the one that came out the closest to the original color was a Duplicoat Wheel paint. I had some lying around from when I painted my sons wheels, so I gave it a try. Came out nice.
