Hi, this is my first post here so be gentle lol. I just bought my first 68 RS SS L78 and she is mostly original and pretty sweet. The car came out of Nevada and has no rust (gotta love the high desert). I am really trying to keep this as close to factory original and/or correct as possible. The previous owner had redone the trunk when he had the car repainted seven years ago and I don't think it looks quite right. Will try to post pic, if it doesn't work email me and I can send one via regular email. I have seen discussions on the correct splatter paint and none of the discussions seem to come to a conclusion. I have also seen products offered by companies like Eastwood who offer three different colors; a black with aqua, a darker gray with white and a lighter gray with white. This leads to several questions:

What is the factory correct splatter paint for the 68 trunk?
Does the Eastwood (or others) rattle can stuff look right and does it work well?
Should I strip the trunk and start over or just paint over the existing stuff? I am not yet at a point where I feel competent to take on a very technical job as I really don't want to do anything stupid and hurt the value of the car.
When the factory painted the trunk did they mask off the hinges and the bracket that goes over the trunk latch etc, or was it painted before that stuff was in place? I need to know what to mask off if I am going to paint the trunk.Okay, can't get the pic posting thing yet, sorry.

Thanks for the help

Mark

Wow! Looks nice. Thanks for the pics. How do we know if this color or the black with aqua is the factory correct?

Read these... It should be aqua and black. To get it factory like, spray over a black base.

A picture of mine in this one but I didn't know at the time to use a black base. This was shot over a grey color...

It is mentioned in the link I posted, but call Larry at Camaros Plus (303-278- 8536). The mix of zolatone he sells is suppose to match the factory color.

He can also answeer your last question, " When the factory painted the trunk did they mask off the hinges and the bracket that goes over the trunk latch etc, or was it painted before that stuff was in place? I need to know what to mask off if I am going to paint the trunk."

Here's a great online tech article with pictures from Year One that should answer your questions:
