I want to learn more about cam selection and the theory behind it all including all of the equations and figures. I also want to know exactly how to calculate the correct head and intake parameters to match up with my particular cam. Is there any good technical books out there that explain all of this in detail and not just some general answer like the heads, intake, and carb must be matched to the cam to provide best performance. I want to know exactly how a person is supposed to be able to decide which ones match and what parameters they are matching exactly.

How to Build Horsepower David Vizard has a chapter on cams, but also has some good reading on the rest of the engine systems which is important to understand how a camshaft works and interacts with other systems.

Budget Building Max Performance Chevy Small Blocks by Dave Vizard is similar to the book above except it is more targeted towards the SBC.

He may have a book specifically on cams and valve train but I do not seem to have it on my shelf and cannot remember for sure.

I looked him up on amazon and he has a book on cam theory and head theory as well so I'm going to pick his books up. Thanks for the info.

Have you looked up some of UDHarold's posts back in some of the threads on this subject over at Team Chevelle!

One in particular was excellent, but even at that, probably not that intensive for you.

He got into Vel., Accel., Jerk, Jolt or whatever that deals with the names guys in the trade call the higher order polynumeral derivatives/integrals, (I always forget this late in my life)...

I'll make sure to check those posts out too. I don't think I'm the only one who feels that they need to learn a lot more about cams and how they affect horsepower and torque. Hopefully this helps others here too.

I have learned a lot on the cam makers websites. Isky has great articles. Google it and you will be amazed.
