I'm having a problem with my brake lights. When the headlights aren't on they work. Yet at night once the headlights are on they don't work. I have changed the bulbs and it did nothing. I have no idea of what to do. I didn't even know of the problem until last night when pulled over and recieved a ticket for it. Someone help!!!!:sad:

The car is a 1997 Camaro. The tailights are fine. They work with the switch off. Yet as soon as the headlights are on I lose the brake lights. They are working now because its daylight. Yet tonight once its dark and the headlights are on I will lose them. Wonder how long I've been driving at night without brakes!

Do turn signals work with lights on?
Emergency flashers work?

Yes they do just the brake light doesn't work once headlights are on.

There is a difference in brillance between taillights and stop lights.

Has anything been done to the car before this problem?
Could the bulbs in the sockets be installed backwards?

They're installed right. Guess I just can't drive at night now

Have you checked the fuse?
I believe there is a fuse for each, tailights and for brake lights.

Check the earth wires both at the bulbs and at the body.
Discolouring if the bulbs over time is also a sign of bad earths

Its fixed now. Was the stop and tailight sockets. Got em for $12 apiece and had mechanic friend wire them in. Thanks for trying to help :)
