First off i'd like to say hello. I've been on this and many other sites for awhile and this one is excellent. that being said hopefully someone can help steer me in the right direction. I have an 87 camaro that I just rebuilt entirely. The problem I have is that i dont like the cam my machinist picked out for me. I take the blame for it as i did tell him this was a street car but i'd like more out of it. I have a 355 with 9:1 hyperuetectics, stock rods and crank all balanced, pocket ported stock heads, edelbrock performer rpm intake and carb headers and true duals. trans is 700r4 with 2800 stall and 4.10 gears out back. the cam is a hydraulic roller with 214 deg duation at .050 on intake 218 on exhaust with .465 .470 lift. i believe it was on 110 deg lobe seperation angle. what can i get by with to get 1) a little more power and 2) a lopier sound. idle vacuum now is at 18 inches and with the stall and gears i think i could sacrifice some low end without killing the driveability of the car. any input is appreciated

No dubt you want to keep the roller set up correct? (Since you've already have made the roller investment)

yes i plan on keeping the roller setup. the block was a factory roller motor.
also i was mistaken in my first post the cam is set on 115 lobe sep not 110.

The Crane 109821 is slightly more aggressive 214 in - 222 ex @.050 with .488 - .509 lift on 112 lobe centers. The next step is 109831 222 in - 230 ex @ .050 with .509 - .528 lift on 112 lobe centers. I don't know how much lift your engine will handle before the valves start hitting the pistons, but at 9.0:1 I'd say they should handle more than .470". The greater lift and tighter seperation of the 109821 should give you the overlap you need to achieve the idle and midrange snap you're looking for. I don't know if I'd go all out for the 109831. I don't think it's going to like 9:1 and stock heads, but it definately would sound mean.

GM`s own HOT cam might work nicely for you.
If you have the clearance for it.
It`s 218/228 @.050 .525/.525 lift w/1.6`s 112 sep.
You can get one priced at less than $195, not bad for a brand new hyd roller cam

I second the GM Hot cam for your set up. My dad has it in his ZZ430 and it works killer. Nice little lope at idle and makes power everywhere in the curve.
You will love it.
