What size fuel line are you guys using for 500hp?

I have a '68 Camaro, Muncie M21, 12 bolt posi 3.73 gears.

Engine specs: (estimated power, 520hp/550tq)
468 BBC internal balanced
10.5:1 compression
Alum Edelbrock RPM oval port heads
Crane roller cam (not too wild) & Crane Gold Roller rockers
Accel DFI fuel injection w/36lb injectors
2” Hooker headers

My fuel line is currently 3/8". It's all new, but I'm just wondering if you guys with 500hp+ engines are typically using bigger fuel lines?

Also, I will admit to taking a shortcut when installing the DFI fuel pump. I am not using a 12v relay to power the pump. I am just using the 12v from the DFI wired directly to the pump. Would that somehow limit flow?

thanks

If youre gonna upgrade then do a 1/2" line and get it over with, it will be enough for a streetcar.:D

I assume you are having an issue and that is why you are asking? If so I would fix what you know is not right first . . . (the relay)

Also, I have heard that with EFI you need to sump your tank in a 1st gen because air bubbles and sloshing is more of a problem with high pressure EFI systems. Air bubbles don't bother carburetors like they do fuel injectors.

At 520 HP you could probably get away with 3/8" line, but 1/2" would be better if starting from scratch. Just don't expect larger fuel line to fix any problems.

Yeah, well, I'm gonna put in the relay (20 amp) with some heavy wire. The engine is sometimes leaning out (kinda like chugging) when I hit third gear, but it doesn't happen all the time. Just a wierd intermittent problem that I'm trying to solve..............

Yup.........3/8 is good for an easy 600 hp with a well designed system.
