View Full Version : tire tubes in slicks? Jeff22 Sep 8th, 06, 07:12 AM with a set of m/t et drag slicks, do you have to use thier tubes? or will any proper sized tire tube work ? thanks jet_car2000 Sep 8th, 06, 07:43 AM Jeff use racing tubes only,, others are too thin and they will pinch and leak Jeff22 Sep 8th, 06, 07:52 AM thanks jet_car2000 Sep 8th, 06, 08:36 AM Jeff i have seen guys use the regular tubes in the past but they allways seemed to get a hole in them,, compare them to a racing tube and you will see why. Frank 68sixspeed Sep 8th, 06, 08:16 PM I ran m/t et drag slicks for a couple years, no tubes, no problems. Regardless, you may want to mark your tire to rim with a paint marker in one spot to watch for and slip between the tire and rim-- I've had them move, typically on the first day of running, then rebalance the tire if it moves significantly. It seems like once the tire gets hot and cools a few times, it doesn't slip anymore. Sorry if I got side-tracked. -Dan zdld17 Sep 8th, 06, 09:01 PM Use the drag tubes and apply some talc powder in the tire with the tube. Keeps things from getting pinched . Stewart G. Griffin Sep 8th, 06, 09:54 PM I would also recommend running tubes in the front if you run narrow front tires and rims. They'll probably go flat if you don't. Newbomb Sep 8th, 06, 11:29 PM I suggest rim screws too! Why not? Might as well go all out, I never have a problem with my tires/tubes/screws.... ...forgot to put my story up....bout 3 years ago a fox body mustang I was racing (who was SLIGHTLY ;) ) infront of me swirved into my lane with a flat tire...I slammed on the brakes and we almost collided (I was catching up :hurray: ) upon later inspection...the tire spun on the rim, tearing the valve stem from the tube!!! jet_car2000 Sep 9th, 06, 11:30 AM Use the drag tubes and apply some talc powder in the tire with the tube. Keeps things from getting pinched . Yeap thats true the talc works good and the tubes dont stick to the tire or rim. Frank |
