Please check out the above link which has about 6 pictures of my 68 camaro in the body shop..

i purchased one ss kit but the painter stopped right at the edge of the fender and at the start of the wheel well.. there was some mis-communication, i havent figured out yet where this mis-communication came from, also i bought new tail light bezels and lenses however the shop accidentely put the old ones back in...

my concern here is the front header stripe is under the clear because it was painted on, the shop told me at first that they couldnt paint the rest on basically because they said they already cleared the entire car... after they painted the header part on....

i was pretty upset to say the least, why would i want a partial stripe on the car, anyways they then said to get the sticker kit which is part stencil/sticker, which is what the car originally had, the header part was painted on where the sides were sticker, they were going to paint the sticker by hand the raider silver color to match up, since the stripes come in white and black,,, anyways the shop had me buy a second kit now only to tell me that they tried to paint the stripe stickers for the rest of the car but it started to bubble on them...

now we are back at square 1 where, the shop is going to paint it on (from the first kit stencil) over the clear... they say it may feel like a sticker but it will be painted, it wont be as smooth because the header part is under the clear and the rest of it will be on top of the clear...i think they better start wet sanding after this is done big time..

i hope i explained this ok because im confusing myself at this point,, i have gutt pains worrying about my baby so far im a little over 4 grand into it..they keep on saying well we only charged you 2 grand for the paint job and that i purchased a bunch of parts... (who gives a ratts tail the bottom line is after this is all said and done the paint job will cost me a little over 4 grand)...i also cant stand people that offer you work for a price then when they get into it and find them-selves doing a little extra work they get complacent and start to make stupid comments like i had to do extra work.. these paint jobs can cost 6 grand and bla bla bla..(PLEASE im in indiana here 4 grand is alot lets be real this isnt los angeles, or new york the only people getting their junk painted are Amish folks look at the cost of living, 6 grand please..) the point is they agreed to the price when i took them the car... im sick of shops doing this garbage to people.. the old i had to do this and that.. i really dont give a horses tail what body shop people have to do... i bet they wont ask what i had to do to get the money to pay them with lol.. basically what has happened is the persons mental mens-reas has changed.. you know the old i'll do it partially because i should of charged more attitude.. and making the comment on how they arent charging me that much.. even though when its said and done a little over 4 grand is what i will have paid.. man i feel like SNAPPING .....

anyways to much independence drinking for me, i get emotional when thinking about my 68 baby ..
the paint job looks nice and its so close from being just the way i want her to be ....im not upset at the quality of the work in this situation, rather im upset at the incompletness..

my question i guess is, the shop person says that they would leave it the way it is and just throw the 2 camaro emblems on the side..

I snapped big time at the shop...i was cussing and kicking stuff around.. basically because i feel its like getting one side of your head shaved and not completting the rest of it.. anyone who knows anything about camaros will surely ask where in the heck is the rest of the SS stripe dont ya think for crying out loud... or am i just worrying to much please let me know its
2 a.m and all i can think about is my 68 baby !!!

HEY,
There is absolutely no reason for you to feel like your asking too much of the shop. heck, you paid good money for it to be done "right"
so i'd make them graemlins/clonk.gif do it over again....the way it was suppose to be. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

that's just my $0.02

Hey knightmoose, what's the name of the shop? I'm in your neck of the woods. I want to stay out of their way.

You could play hardball and try to "make" them do it right at their own expense. But I worry about the quality of the work at that point.

I'd make nice with them. Have a calm meeting of the minds and see if they'll split it with you (or pay the brunt of it). Yes, they screwed up. But right now they have your baby. If you pull the car you'll have to pay someone else to fix it anyway.

Good luck.

I have similar luck the paint shop I used painted my 68 SS rally stripes on my hood and header panel and didn't do the cowl panel. I wasn't in town when he finished it and he towed in back to my garage. Now I have to wait till I assemble the car and bring it back. He shop looks messier then mine also.

i dont at this point want to list the name of the shop as a bad place or a good place because the job isnt finished yet and it wouldnt be wise, especially when i know they are members also on this site because they seek useful information to help out their ocuupational speciality... its times like this where a true good shop however will stand up to ethics and values.. if they dont i will rag them out big time all over this site...

i will take your advice because at this moment i riding around in my 67 camaro which has had many earl scheob paint jobs as well lol .. i took the 68 in for the big job because it has matching numbers and protecto plate ect... my 67 is a put together ... anyways i will take your advice because yes they have my baby and yes the job looks good but it can look great ,, its just a hair away from being the way i want her.. i will play it cool and hope for the best,, hopefully i will have final pictures by end of the week take care.

There is only one thing to be done IMHO. Scuff the doors and fenders, lay out the remaining stripe kit, tape around it vary carefully, mast car and spray the silver stripes, & reclear the doors and fenders again. Not that big of problem. Just go show um a picture of what it's supposed to look like and show um what they gave you.

WTF!!!! they are members here and dont know what a correct stripe looks like???, tell them to put down the crack pipe and sober up,I feal for ya, been there to many times and tought myself how to do the work myself, besides most of these body bozo's always say "good enough for this guy" when you agreed to a perfect job at top dollar before they took the car in, like you said they always want to redo the deal after thay have the car.

Sorry for the rant hit a hot spot with me! have them lay out new stripes ontop of the paint front to back and wet sand the edges the best you can and polish it, if they have to dig back into the paint I would fear there heart will not be in it and you will not see the car for year.....

Take it offline with them\him, or whomever else wants to know details of a particular shop. Not here.

You have a problem with the way the car was painted and sort of asked, in a round about way, what your options are at this point. The only option is to have the body finished to YOUR liking. If you're not happy with the options they're giving you for fixing the mistake or incompleteness, and they won't remedy the situation to your liking, take the car somewhere else and deal with them offline, away from TC.

Everyone agrees with you that what happened is kind of kooky.... why just stop painting a stripe just because they had a problem with a stripe kit? If this comes down to money and how much work they feel they should put into it, take it somewhere else. It sounds like this car is your baby so it should be treated as such. I still wouldn't let them off the hook. You\they have been given a couple options for finishing the paint and if they're members, it's possible they've read them. You said that you're more than satisfied with the job so far except for the incompleteness.... it's up to you now how it gets completed.

Good luck Knightmoose.... don't just settle for acceptable.... settle for RIGHT.

Why would it be improper for him to identify these knuckleheads? Maybe they would chime in and tell their side of the story? Either way, I'd be interested in this information, and I don't see why it would be wrong to post it here, isn't that what this site is for? The spread of useful information? If not, why do I keep reading all these posts in the for sale section about a certain "questionable" dealership in Oklahoma? I see the one from earlier today has been deleted, but throughout the last year or so, I have probably seen about a dozen or so posts about these shady characters, and I for one can say I'm glad their reputation has been "outed", because I too know several people who they have ripped off. Anyway, I'm off my soapbox, go ahead and rip me with the politically correct answer, or should I do it for you? "We here at Team Camaro cannot allow negative posts about vendors, body shops, ebayers, etc.....because of our liability and the threat of lawsuit.....yada, yada, yada."
I say let them sue, and let's have some kahunas and start outing these rip-off artists that are giving our entire hobby a bad name. There, I said it, flog me, I'm guilty as charged. graemlins/angry.gif

you know if one thing about hanging around this site makes me feel good it's the fact that I can paint my own car , build my own engine , cover my own seat's , weld on my own 1/4's , of the five first gen camaro's I have owned not one of them ever left my driveway to be worked on in any way shape or form , I have never spent one penny on a body shop or repair shop of any kind , I read here every week of all the thousand's of dollar's guy's spend on engine rebuild's , paint , bodywork , and a lot of it end's in an unsatisfied car owner , I feel very sorry for anyone that get's tangled up in stuff like this , and I know that they are good honest shop's around , but as KZ so elequintly put it , they are (CROOKS) also , :D
