Team, what cam is best for a 385 stroker, apprx. 9.6:1 compression, headersm weiand action plus intake, 4:10 rear with 4speed, in a '69 camaro.

I would like a nice sounding idle (lope) but a good running street engine, maybe take it to the strip to run the 1/4 2x a summer....thanks again Dave

Hey Dave - I've run Comp Cams 292H in most of my small blocks and big blocks with no issues with about the same setup as you have. I'd suggest a vacuum resevoir as well if you have power brakes. It'll definately be choppy at idle. Here's the specs: 2500-6500 RPM - Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 292/ 292, Lift .501/ .501, 0n a 110 degree lobe center..... You will need to o use the matching valve springs...

here is some reading about dcr, if i read correctly with your compression at what is, you need a smaller cam to be in good dcr range. someone correct me if i am wrong.

cd playa's post is great point -

Call the manufacturer to get a real read on thier cams and your engine driveline combo. More cubic inch means you can step up the size of the cam you are going to use.

Since you have 4.10's and a stick - I think you'll be happy with something bigger than 280 degrees advertised duration especially if you are after a certain idle characteristic...just my .02. Good luck
