Building BB396 . I think I am going to use one of these rods. What do think of them? What metal is stonger 4140 or 5140?

4310 or 4340 will be your better rod. Check out www.cnc-motorsports.com. Clint has always given me great deals and has super service and fast shipping. I'd probably step up to the capscrew rods, they're stronger and only a few dollars more. In my experience, Scat stuff tends to be closer with regards to tolerance, etc. I assume you have a steel crank? If not, they're available on ebay for not much over $200. Find a nitrided one - they'll be almost black but it's worth the extra few bucks for that surface hardness, IMHO. Good luck!
