View Full Version : Subframe difference thewebb1 Sep 12th, 06, 06:22 PM What's the difference between a 67, 68, and 69 subframe? Bgonz 69 Sep 12th, 06, 07:10 PM I think the stops for the steering are different ???? I think i remember that, but i could be wrong.I'm probably wrong. :clonk: ps...... I'll check tomorrow ;) bob davidpozzi Sep 12th, 06, 07:17 PM 67 subs have the rubber bumpstops on a bracket that is bolted to the rear of the spring pocket, not on the A arm. Early 67 subs have no "extra holes for big block auto trans crossmember. Later subs have three holes per side, the auto trans crossmember for BB auto is tubular and has a closer bolt spacing measured front to rear. It uses one of the std crossmember holes, so only one more is added. 68 sub has bumpstop on the rear side of the lower A arm, it hits a spot on the spring pocket rear. It has holes for the BB auto trans crossmember. 69 is the same as 68 but the bumpstop is on the lower A arm and hits the sub in front of the spring pocket. There might be some extra holes near the radiator support holes. When Nova began sharing the sub with Camaro, there were three holes in that location. clwilcox33 Sep 12th, 06, 07:21 PM Edit: David beat me to it :) Main difference is the bump stops for the control arms. Also, early 67s didn't have the large holes on the front bumper horns of the frame. Quoted: '67 the bump stop is mounted to the frame itself pointing down. '68 the bump stop is on the trailing edge of the A arm pointing up. There is a corresponding landing zone welded on the frame behind the spring pockets. '69 the bump stop is on the leading edge of the A arm pointing up, with the landing zone welded forward of the spring pockets. thewebb1 Sep 13th, 06, 05:01 AM Thanks guys. Just the description I was looking for! KevinK7 Sep 13th, 06, 06:07 AM Great thread  (this is something I wanted to clarify myself) ...Adding to what was already said, ...but I don't recall the specifics * inboard side of driver-side framerail (just rear of toeboard area) has 'cutout/round hole' for kickdown linkage, ...I believe from a Nova subframe? (can anyone elaborate?) * the larger (A-arm bolt access holes) in the subframe main crossmember were round for Camaro, ...and had a flat for Nova. (?) (again, ...could someone confirm...) My 11E LOS car was built during the transition period when 67’s were first getting the large subframe holes. My subframe only has the large hole on the passenger side. The driver side frame rail is the early 67 type without the hole. Wow that is an unusual one for sure. Hammered Sep 13th, 06, 07:55 PM I have some pictures posted here to show the differences listed above. Also, the '67 frame have only two holes in the top front horns while the '69 has three. clwilcox33 Sep 13th, 06, 09:26 PM Also, the '67 frame have only two holes in the top front horns while the '69 has three. For some of the 67's, that's true. JIM68 Sep 13th, 06, 11:06 PM hey chris long time no see..... mine's a 68: http://www.camaro327.com/68/Subframe/P5020083_s.JPG 3 Holes in each bumper horn |
