i noticed in some pics that 68 rs grills have the horizontal lines in the grill chromed. was this factory, or an option. mine does nit have it and i seemn most other rs's with out it. any idea?

All of the 68's were originally chromed. Most people eventually painted over it. You can now buy repo grilles with the chrome on it.

The chrome wasn't very heavy duty, and after a few car washes, away it went.
