View Full Version : Correct Height need help
mred91316 Sep 13th, 06, 09:23 PM I need your advice and input. I finished replacing the front coil springs & shocks and rear leaf springs and shocks. Now my car looks like a 4X4 and I don't like it. The car sits uneven after I have driven it for about 100 miles. I recheck everything including making sure that the front coild springs are seeded correctly. I've tighten everything when it was on the ground like everyone said too. I don't understand where I went wrong and it driving me crazy:clonk: .
Here's what I used:
Front:
Moog Coil Springs 6308
KYB Gas Adjust Shocks
BFGoodrich 225 60/15 on Rally rims
Driver side sits 27 1/4
Passenger sits 28 1/4
Rear:
JCW 3 leaf springs
KYB Gas Adjust Shocks with shock extentions
BFGoodrich 245 60/15 on Rally rims
Rear Driver side sits 28 1/4
Rear Passenger side sits 29 1/4
PLEASE HELP>>>>>>

Love the color!
Eric Kammerer Sep 13th, 06, 11:47 PM It doesn't sit as high as I expected from the description.
Some good info in this thread for tracking down the lean.

Be glad you used the shorter coils.
impreza13 Sep 14th, 06, 12:56 AM if you check the books you can find out how high it is supposed to be originally. i think that most original camaro heights were a little taller like this. look at some pics too. i did the same thing with the jcw three leaf and new front and all that jazz and i actually posted about it too. well i am just going to give it time and see where it sit's when finished for around a couple months of driving before i go lowering it. i think i was told it might take a couple months for the leafs to settle or something like that. oh by the way your car is very nice! very different and that is where it's at!! , Rich
DjD Sep 14th, 06, 08:58 AM How are your subframe bushings? If they need replacing you may find the car levels out once you do. As for the ride height, orig 7.35x14 tires about the same as 205/70x14 which are an inch shorter than your 245/60's. I think your car sits a little high since you are showing the driver side that is an inch lower than the passanger side.
Try undoing all 4 shocks so the car sits on just the springs and see what it looks like. Since the suspension should have to be compressed some to install a fully extended shock I can see where some might opt for a taller shock thinking they need the extra travel of the suspension. That would cause the car to sit higher...
mred91316 Sep 14th, 06, 10:34 AM Thanks for all of your feedback and compliments. I’ve restored this baby from the ground up and know every part of this car. I have not yet tackled replacing the body bushing because I have not read enough information on it to feel comfortable doing it myself. What about the rear shock extensions, should I remove them? I really don't know why I have them on. I read about them in many forums and thought I needed them if I was going from mono to multi leafs. What are your thoughts?
JIM68 Sep 14th, 06, 10:45 AM why are those miniture kids riding skateboards on your roof???
mred91316 Sep 14th, 06, 11:40 AM Damn those gremlins...........
tubergonz Sep 14th, 06, 07:59 PM Sweet *** car! Mine is still a stack of parts.
impreza13 Sep 14th, 06, 10:05 PM the jcw three leaf are to be treated as mono leaf don't even think of them as multileaf they are a direct replacement i would take out the extensions if they are for a multileaf, and see where your car sits. hope this helps, Rich
CFunK Sep 15th, 06, 09:47 AM I used the 3 leaf mono springs with mono shocks without issue. Pull the extenders and see what happens.
As far as the 1" difference from side to side goes. Give this suggestion by Pozzi a try
"Put a narrow piece of wood or steel on your floor jack pad and jack on the exact center of the front subframe centerline. The piece wood or steel should be running parallel front to rear to the centerline of the car. Raise the car until the tires are off the floor, this will eliminate the front suspension from affecting body lean. You can then switch to the rear and jack that end and see if there is a difference.
You can disconnect any sway bars to take them out of the picture, just unhook one end link.
Stewie Oct 20th, 06, 06:59 PM I just got my frame rails and trunk pan redone and I thought that would do it, but mine is still like yours. I assume you are measuring to the top of the wheel wells. I am an inch lower on the drivers side. It was like that before the rails were installed.
So what can be done?
go2fast Oct 20th, 06, 08:11 PM My '68 sits that high on the original springs (though I'll probably lower it one of these days).
