so far we got the engine and trans bolted up along with the, headers, power steering hoses, starter, trans mount, drive shaft, and engine brackets. tomorrow im going to cut the wiring to length, most of the wiring is run behind the fenders coming out of a hole in the blower motor location ran straight to the battery. add some fluids and get it running again. last time it was in this condition the engine leaked really bad. i changed all the gaskets and got a new oil pan with a one piece gasket. cross your fingers it doesnt leak! as soon as its running again i will post some videos on youtube. as soon as im done with this post im going to install the gauges in my DSE dash.
Rocketrod Sep 15th, 06, 05:00 AM WOW! Looks great! Have you pick the type of gauges and layout for the DSE dash? I installed one last winter with ultra-lites and I really like it. Keep us updated on your progress.
DougP Sep 15th, 06, 06:12 AM Congratulations --- man, that black does look good!! I may have to re-think the color for my 69 project car

i think he is refering to dial up modem speed.
firstgenaddict Sep 15th, 06, 08:40 AM 5600 would be damn good for a paint job like that... especially if the paint shop did the body work as well.
I wouldn't paint a car for that...
bretcopsey Sep 15th, 06, 08:58 AM Looks like 65 benjamins laid out there in the first picture...:hurray:
camaroman7d Sep 15th, 06, 09:00 AM Car looks great. I didn't count all the Benjamins but, looks like you got your moneys worth.
Mkelcy Sep 15th, 06, 09:15 AM Who did the paint?
Vintage 68 Sep 15th, 06, 09:22 AM Hey Justin, car looks great
Looks like you're making good progress on the reassemble - you should be able to show your dad how much faster the 69 is than his 67 Mushthing in no time ... ;)
That wouldn't be the Sierra Ave. on ramp would it?
John
ps: that sixth 'Benjy' in the 4th row on your table looks familiar :D
JIM68 Sep 15th, 06, 10:40 AM AWESOME paint! what did they shot it with? Clear coat or one stage?
clwilcox33 Sep 15th, 06, 10:41 AM Guys, he said "56k no no"....meaning that if you're on "56k" the thread will be a "no no" because of how long it would take to view with all the pics posted. He didn't mean what he paid for the paint job. :D
smattix Sep 15th, 06, 10:54 AM Pics look great....as for the 56k, I have dial up (50.6kbps is the current speed) and it didn't take to long. Pics themselves took maybe...45 seconds or so. Anyways car look good:thumbsup:
Everett#2390 Sep 15th, 06, 11:12 AM Yea, Man, Thumbs up on this one!
clwilcox33 Sep 15th, 06, 11:22 AM Odd, I'm not seeing the pics in the first post anymore...Everyone else seeing them?

ZZ430DropTop67RS Sep 15th, 06, 12:40 PM Looks real nice.
Gotta love black....
MY FIRST 69 Sep 15th, 06, 01:02 PM yep, 56k was a dial up modem warning.
thank you for all the comments! you guys are great. i havnt been one for pictures but i cant help myself lately. so after years of being a member of this site its only fair to see what you guys have helped me through.
the paint was $7600. last time i stopped by the shop he told me $6500. not too bad. all i have to do is give him the 12 bolt in my car after i swap in my 9 inch and we are squared away. when i brought him the car it already had nice body work and a crappy single stage paint job. all he did was sand blast the ftont clip, gind the body down to metal again, re align the panels and re paint. the car was in the shop for almost 3 months.
the guys name is doug starbuck. he runs starside design. they used his paint booth on an episode of overhaulin thats what pretty much had me sold that he had the skills. here is a link to his shop.
http://www.starsidedesign.com/
the paint is base/clear black. i dont know what brand but it turned out awesome! he also painted my DSE dash and glove box. doug told me that once i get the car together and running i can bring it back anytime and he will go over the paint with a foam pad for free! my mom and dad are so pleased with the work that the mustangs going under the knife in the near future.
MY FIRST 69 Sep 15th, 06, 01:05 PM I had DSE cut the holes in it for me when i bought it.
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-717852493.jpg
here is some of the wiring. its a painless dash wiring harness. it has all the hook ups and grounds for oil, volt, fuel, temp, tach, and lighting for a mechanical speedo. all the colors in this harness match the colors in the painless 18 circuit muscle car harness, so it was plug and play.
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-398681015.jpg
well im back to work. more pics to come. cross your fingers for a video!
MY FIRST 69 Sep 15th, 06, 01:31 PM i also forgot to add that car has repo:
quarters
door skins
trunk floor
section of floorboard
fenders
inner fenders
hood
cowl panel
trunk deck
spoiler
the only panels that were factory were the header panel, rad support, and the lower valance. thats why its taken years to find a shop who could get it right.
DOUG G Sep 15th, 06, 02:00 PM Great looking job :beers:
supercharged sbc Sep 15th, 06, 08:50 PM  MONEY WELL SPENT LOOKS GOOD
MY FIRST 69 Sep 16th, 06, 02:57 AM i worked all day! but it still doesnt look like i got much done. i hooked up all of the clutch linkage again. what a pain in the butt. anyone else running spherical rod clutch linkage? i managed to finish most of the wiring in the car. i finished the in car portion of the dash wiring, hooked up the starter, battery cables, and i trimed and ran most of the wires behind the wheel wells to the battery. hooked up the carb and fuel lines, and mounted the power steering pump and pulley. also added oil to the motor and trans.
tomorrow im going to install the front shocks, radiator, electric fan wiring, spark plugs, ignition wires, and my MSD pro billet dist.
i didnt get it started today but did manage to get power to all the gauges and the starter kicked over the engine so we could get it to TDC. so far no major problems! thank god! i think the car is happy that it finally has nice paint. here is a pic of todays progress.

MY FIRST 69 Sep 16th, 06, 02:58 AM sorry double post.
John68rs Sep 16th, 06, 04:43 AM Good for you bro! Your car looks great.
MY FIRST 69 Sep 17th, 06, 01:31 AM got it running today! great news nothing leaks! it was pretty late when we started it up around 9pm. i didnt want the neighbors mad so we shut it down. the temp gauge wasnt working but that was a quick fix. after i swaped out the wire (it was a light green to dark green connection) the temp gauge came to life. i hooked you the headlight switch and that works. next is to test the wiper motor wiring to see if the switch has power, once that is done i can mount the dash. next tuesday im going to make a run to classic industries and use my discount code before the month is over. i gotta get glass in this thing ASAP! i want to drive it!
video coming soon.
Buck Sep 17th, 06, 07:24 AM Show me the Money..
Car looks nice!!!!
I still see MONEY
rich pern Sep 17th, 06, 07:38 AM Very Nice Car.........
I personally think that this is the most exciting stage. It's back from paint, you are dropping all of those goodies that had been just sitting around, and hopefully some friends, or family are helping. Nothing better.
GMJoe Sep 17th, 06, 09:09 AM

MY FIRST 69 Sep 17th, 06, 02:39 PM next set of vids ill have my dad rev it up. i wanted to show off my dash a bit. i want to get glass in the car bad so i can test drive it and get my american thunder exhaust put on.
thedugan Sep 17th, 06, 05:22 PM nice...
I need to get my car painted. Finding a painter is so hard.
TOM BARKLEY Sep 17th, 06, 09:56 PM Where is this shop located that did your paint and bodywoek?
MY FIRST 69 Sep 18th, 06, 12:35 AM they are located in riverside CA.
BrewHog55 Sep 18th, 06, 01:41 AM Wow,
You don't mess around!
The car looks great.
I am located in Riverside and will be needing a painter soon for my 68. I am planning to go with black paint and red interior.
If you get to the Veterans show on October 1st stop by the 55 Bel Air (Coral and Shadow Gray) and say hi,
Don
MY FIRST 69 Sep 22nd, 06, 03:38 AM im trying to make progress on the car but i seem to be breaking more parts then im installing!
i tried to install my new wiper motor and see if the wiper switch worked so i could mount my dash. well i neglected to ground the switch to the dash so i think that is the reason why it wasn’t working. The switch broke so i decided to figure out why the button got stuck when it was pushed in. needless to say its in pieces. i bought a new wiper motor and totally forgot to replace the washer pump, my old one is totally beat. i took it apart and well im not to sure if that helped. im just going to buy a new one. so i need a wiper switch and washer pump.
my nine inch swap has been a total pain in the ass too. to make a long story short i sent back my currie rear disk brakes for there 11'' drums. i didnt feel like messing with the emergency brake cables. so off they went. the drums are great. i painted the housing and 3rd member and got it all bolted up. i un bolted the 12 bolt from the car along with the cal tracs. im installing some DSE 3'' drop leafs along with the new rear. so i needed to swap out the solid leaf spring bushing from the old leafs. i did it the redneck way without a press... i used a screw driver and a hammer to open up the spring eye and i beat the crap out of the bushing with a large socket and piece of wood. im going to need to "fix" the solid bushing with my grinder so the sleeve can slide inside of it again... then there were the U bolts! i dont know what happened but my impact couldn’t take the nuts off of the U bolts I think they stripped, so i cut them with the grinder. after all was said and done i realized that i didnt order new U bolts! so everything is on hold until i get some new U bolts. while i do that i also have to make some new hard lines for my 9''.
so as soon as i get U bolts and some hard line i can continue what i started.
I also need to get some header collector rings welded up so I can install my flow master American thunder exhaust. My thorly headers have 2.5 inch collectors and my flow master kit came with weld up 3 inch collectors with gaskets. So im going to weld the 2.5 inch collector ring welded to the front of the 3 inch slip fit pipe. It should work out good. That way I can use all the supplied parts with the flow master kit.
Everett#2390 Sep 22nd, 06, 04:17 AM im trying to make progress on the car but i seem to be breaking more parts then im installing!
after all was said and done i realized that i didnt order new U bolts!
I see Murphy came to visit and laid down his law.
U-bolts can be bought at your local spring distributor.
MY FIRST 69 Sep 27th, 06, 02:43 AM ok back on track. today UPS delivered my U bolts and brake lines. tomorrow morning im making a run to classic industries to use the last of the September 20% discount. i was going to order from them but there shipping is out of control! so an hour drive it is for a wiper pump, wiper switch, some small trim items, and factory e brake cables. im going to get my header collectors welded up also. my stupid thorly headers have a tiny 2.5 bolt flange so i have to rig my american thunder kit so i can get the pipes to slip together. the only issue i can see coming from tomorrow is that i have no idea how to set my cal tracs up after they have been off. the instructions are long gone. anyone know how to set them back up? ill get some more pics up too.
camaro_69 Sep 27th, 06, 05:40 AM Excellent work!!!
MY FIRST 69 Oct 2nd, 06, 03:14 AM finally got the nine inch in the car! what a pain in the butt installing the new shackles with the gas tank in there. i found out just how sharp the edges are! i upgraded to some heavy duty shackles i got some DSE along with the leafs. they were way shorter then the ones that were on the car. so this is the result of DSE 3 inch drop springs, new shackles, and a ford nine inch. the car sits so low now that the door handle is under my belt buckle.
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-529108942.jpg
MY FIRST 69 Oct 5th, 06, 02:11 AM had a long day in the garage today. main objective for today was to install the stock emergency brake system. i took the rear wheels off and removed the drums when i noticed i had installed the brakes on the wrong side of the car! the exit for the emergency brake cables were pointing rearward. so out came the axles. swapped sides and installed the rear park brake cables. im amazed at how easy the entire emergency brake system was to install. the hardest part i had to deal with was pulling the front cable with some vice grips to attach it to the foot brake. after that pushing it up and bolting it to the dash wasnt that bad. i then installed the intermediate cable and the tension bar. very pleased to see it come together.
other items on the done list for the day were:
change U joint 1310/1330 conversion
install drive shaft
install rear shocks
install new rubber rear brake hose and hook up the hard lines
bleed brakes
tighten and check all bolts in the rear suspension
reinstall and adjust cal tracs
im just glad to have the rear suspension done!
smits67 Oct 5th, 06, 04:38 AM Love your car.
Why did you go with the 9" when you had a Chevy 12 bolt already??
Did it just work out better for you?
MY FIRST 69 Oct 5th, 06, 10:32 AM i was always told 12 bolts were weak. i didnt want to cut up my 12 bolt by welding in 9inch housing ends, ordering new axles, gears, and a posi unit. i just figured it was easier to buy the nine. i still oen my paint and body guy my 12 bolt. he knocked almost $800 off the total cost for the trade. the nine inch just adds more "cool" parts to the car.
69cama Oct 5th, 06, 02:36 PM Have you priced a 12 bolt lately. They are selling for $1500 and up.
MY FIRST 69 Oct 5th, 06, 11:44 PM oh well i got close to $3000 in my nine. nothing i can do about it now.
smits67 Oct 6th, 06, 05:06 AM Your paint and body guy got a great deal on a rare camaro 12 bolt.......
MY FIRST 69 Oct 7th, 06, 01:43 AM ya think $700 is a great deal for a 12 bolt? i was looking around on a few sites and people were saying $850 was too much for a modified 12 bolt. im also giving him a set of reproduction 5 leaf springs, the old shocks, and all the guts to the drums that are attached. oh well. i actually got the 12 bolt out of a gm only wrecking yard about 6 years ago for $800. the guy said it was from a nova.
BonzoHansen Oct 7th, 06, 01:12 PM i was always told 12 bolts were weak.:clonk:
WildBillyT Oct 7th, 06, 07:50 PM Awesome! Just how I want to do mine, acutally. Did you get any panel replacement or straightening done?
toycarlvr@aol.com Oct 7th, 06, 11:22 PM What a great post!!!! Beautiful...and amazing.
MY FIRST 69 Oct 8th, 06, 01:10 PM that entire car is one panel replacement! its a rolling OER catalog.
Bolt Oct 8th, 06, 01:26 PM Nothing like a black Camaro SWEET! I am in New york and found a shop I feel trust worthy of producing a top shelf paint job. I can tell you that I bargained and shopped the best deal I could get was If I bought the car to them gutted and ready to be striped not so much as a brake line or elect harness in it. they would media blast it and give a pebble beach quality paint on a rotissire fo $15,000. Thats floors and fire wall complete no body work. So if you paid $6,500 you got a hell of a deal. Good luck georgeous car.
WildBillyT Oct 9th, 06, 09:02 PM that entire car is one panel replacement! its a rolling OER catalog.
Eh, do you mean only one panel was replaced or a lot of them?
Sorry for the BS but I'm trying to figure out what it will cost to get my 'piece in paint.
Brackneyc Oct 9th, 06, 09:10 PM Eh, do you mean only one panel was replaced or a lot of them?
Sorry for the BS but I'm trying to figure out what it will cost to get my 'piece in paint.
He means the entire car (for the most part) is aftermarket sheetmetal. I think it was post #22 where he listed the new body panels. It was quite a list. Nice job though. :)
MY FIRST 69 Oct 10th, 06, 01:30 AM page 2 post #22 tells all the repop stuff.
WildBillyT Oct 10th, 06, 06:00 PM Cool, thanks!
MY FIRST 69 Oct 14th, 06, 05:12 PM here is a pic of my billet throttle linkage i got from total control. its for a mustang but it looks cool and works.
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-182545497.jpg
MY FIRST 69 Oct 20th, 06, 04:44 AM i didnt get much more done to the car. i was going to finally work out the bugs with my wiper motor when i relized that i didnt have the bolts on hand to install the wiper transmission. so thats on hold. i got bored and i painted the tail light buckets and installed the new OER tail lights and gaskets. also i installed new repo dash trim and pull handle. its turnned out pretty good.
i forgot to mention that i had my a/c vent on the passenger side shaved. my car looks like a mess right now. you can see the hole in my floor board from when i removed the lokar hand brake. ill have to get it welded up. thats all for now. enjoy.

MY FIRST 69 Oct 27th, 06, 01:27 AM i got lots done on the car today. i had a horrible time getting the wipers to work but they work. only one speed but they turn on. that good enough for me. also the car starts, the gauges light up, and i assume the headlights will work when i wire them. i also installed the DSE dash and glove box.
here is the link to my wiper problem thread

here are my phantoms at night. the tach is dim. wonder if one of the bulbs popped out.
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-228151176.jpg
next step is to bolt in the seat and adjust the clutch. i also screwed in the speedo cable and changed the drive gear in the trans. so maybe ill get a video on me going around the block with no glass installed!
mjsmilford Oct 27th, 06, 03:55 PM do you ever sleep?
Mike
gb70 Oct 28th, 06, 10:41 AM Be sure that your painter gives you a pint of the same paint he used if he still has some. On the pint be sure he writes down the correct mix for you so in the future if you had to go get more the mix is exactly the same. Good to have believe me.
MY FIRST 69 Nov 14th, 06, 01:54 AM sorry for the wait. iv been working at the pace of the automotive world... which is very slow! it took almost a month to get my stainless polished for my windshield install. here is a sample of the stainless. its kinda dark but you can see the digi cam well!
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-878067254.jpg
if all goes well, the glass guy will be here on wednesday morning. its getting closer!
Blade Nov 14th, 06, 04:05 AM Nice looking keep up the good work!
MY FIRST 69 Nov 18th, 06, 02:43 PM i got my glass and trim installed today! it only cost me $150. a friend of the body shop came to my house and did it in the garage. im glad that the windshield still had some of its clips. we ended up throwing away the repo front clips! we salvaged some old ones and used the rear clips as much as we could around the front glass. the small red repop clips bite hard! im also using all the original trim.
here are the resluts.

Steve2000SS Nov 19th, 06, 03:45 PM Looking good.. it's a LONG process and I can feel your pain, but you will get there eventually :)
Love the paint on your car.. looks laser straight!
MY FIRST 69 Dec 8th, 06, 01:57 AM IM BACK! hope you all arent bored of this thread...
i havent been able to do much to the car because i had much catching up to do in school! im glad finals are over and i have a month to work on the car.
spent lots of time adjusting the clutch. what a pain in the butt. here is my redneck fix.
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-155942783.jpg
Day before thanksgiving i took the car on a 7 mile round trip to get the flowmaster american thunder installed. turned out great! sorry no pictures of it, but i do have videos!
this is the car as is when i got it home from the exhaust shop. my lifters are super loud. Its un tuned in this vid (waiting for youtube to host my new vid)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_yoHnohQIU
once the exhaust was on it was a totally different car! it was running really rich and the idle was high. so i did a little dyno tuning. i removed the carb and set the demon back to factory specs, .020 air gap, 1.5 air bleeds, adjusted the accelerator pump, re-checked the throttle linkage, re-lashed the valves, changed the heavy springs in my MSD out for the two smaller blue springs, installed the large black stop bushing 18*, set initial timing to 18*, and checked and re-gapped the plugs.
the car ran great before, but now first gear is useless! anything above 3000 or so and the tires just melt! its a great feeling to know that it will return to idle after beating on it for a while.
now that its getting dark sooner i figured i would get off my butt and wire the front lights. i found out my grill fits horrible, so i have some original fender extensions in the mail to correct that problem. anyway the front lights work. the wiring isnt permanent but everything works and lined up great! guess it pays off to re-use a GM core support and header panel.
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-691415008.jpg
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-456444383.jpg
you guys checkin out my tiny oil leak? its coming from the back of the engine, i get small drips off the bell housing. think its the rear main? checked the valve covers, oil sending unit, and intake. its all dry. i would hate to drop the oil pan!
oh i forgot to add! my cam is huge! and it only pulls 6in of vacuum at idle, so my hydratech hydroboost is in the mail! i should be getting it soon.
http://www.hydratechbraking.com/products/1stgenfbody/systemwithlinesth.jpg
ill slow down someday! for now that is all!
baracda Dec 8th, 06, 02:31 AM In case I missed it in an earlier post, was this a roller cam?
BTW, love the car! Keep posting the pics its nice to see a project unfold like this.
I grew up in Highland near Belvedere Elementary, then moved to Redlands through High School. Sure had a lot of fun in San Berdoo!

pretty soon i car will get a set of polished 18 inch coy C5 wheels. i also want to upgrade the front shocks.

http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-560390553.jpg
i also changed out my crappy plastic busings on my hurst shifter for some metal ones. i really like the feel now!
and lastly we got the hydratech hydroboost hooked up. the brakes work so good now! its amazing.
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/DCx-58176450.jpg
i also managed to install the door frame weatherstripping and lube the windows with white lithium. quarter windows work like a champ now! i bought some latex trunk weatherstrip, im yet to try it out. so far the sofseal door strips are better then the OER. the OER is crap. I still need to clean my roof rail weatherstrip gutters and get that going. it sucks having the windows rattle when you test drive it. anyway, thats all for now. my back is killing me from hooking up the hydroboost to the brake pedal, installing a new return spring, and finally centering and bolting down the steering column.
i also order a dynomat extream kit with (9) 18x32 sheets. hope thats enough to calm down the interior of the car.
Dougs72Nova Dec 21st, 06, 09:32 AM Looking great! I wish i had your money.
MY FIRST 69 Dec 21st, 06, 01:38 PM its all tip money, and a huge stock pile of parts that i have built up over the years.
BonzoHansen Dec 21st, 06, 07:10 PM Nice work.
Why did you decide on drag radials?
MY FIRST 69 Dec 22nd, 06, 05:13 AM cost and grip. i was running some nitto drags on my cobra on the street and they work fine. buddy of mine also runs them on his Ws6.
MY FIRST 69 Jan 20th, 07, 12:53 AM more progress! got a wheel alignment and mounted my new wheels and tires. now that its road worthy itll be getting interior and weather stripping upgrades.

scraped all the old soggy cardboard liner off of the roof of the car today. what a mess! that stuff is horrible. After I get some new door jamb switches its getting a new headliner. I just bought all new moldings for the headliner.
i also started to put in my dynamat today also. what a pain in the butt. this stuff is impossible to work with. im so glad the carpet is going to cover it. i have a whole bunch of wrinkles in it. oh well. looks like my bulk pack of 9 18x32 sheets will only be enough to cover the floors. i wanted to cover the roof with it also. soon as im done putting it in ill take pics.
69camarofast Jan 20th, 07, 12:54 AM hey that looks great!! keep them pics comming..:beers:
Dougs72Nova Jan 20th, 07, 01:01 AM I promise it's the last time i will say it. Man that is a sweet car!

im trying to figure out how to mount a billet optima battey hold down in the stock location and also add an over flow bottle. problem is the battery is in the way!
What did you search on ebay to find this panel ?
dawg Jan 20th, 07, 06:38 AM you can also get the closeout panel from detroit speed

jcdubs Jan 20th, 07, 08:32 AM Very Sweet! Nice job. What's up with the Stang?
MY FIRST 69 Jan 20th, 07, 12:06 PM the stang is just sitting there. the drip rails are now rusted and the core support is junk from battery acid. it is a totally rust free car. you could almost scuff the paint and shoot over it. ever single panel is perfect, it could use a new hood. ill have to do a small photo shoot on it. the last time it was painted was 1978. my dad used it a daily driver until the mid 90s. my mom gave it to me when i was in high school. my dad didnt want me to wreck it, so i spent all my savings on my camaro at the time. my mom is still upset that the camaro he nicer then her car. when the camaro is done my dad and i are going to tear in to the stang. i keep telling him we need to buy a mopar also. so we can one of each.
search for closeout panel on ebay.
DSE panel = 400
ebay panel = 70
VINNYLSS572 Jan 20th, 07, 12:24 PM Congrats the paint looks great and from the looks of it is worth the money
Vinny
MY FIRST 69 Jan 24th, 07, 12:57 AM spent the better part of the day installing dynamat in the car. i used an entire bulk pack. nine 18x32 sheets dont go very far.
I spent a lot of time installing window fuzzies and trying to adjust the door glass. what a pain in the butt! so far all the repo weatherstripping sucks and so do the fuzzies. im also dealing with repo quarters and a new door skins so go figure. im tellin ya, i spend so much money on my car and the little things like the soft trim really take away from the car.
anyway. think this will be enough to quiet down the car and keep some squeeks out?

MY FIRST 69 Jan 24th, 07, 04:32 PM where does the lower closeout panel go? ive never seen one on ebay.
MY FIRST 69 Jun 7th, 07, 01:37 AM its been some time since i have updated things. school has taken over my life and the car has taken a back seat. i have a pile of parts coming, give me one more week then i will dive in.
things to do:
install 3 point seat belts
re-wire headlights
install billet optima hold down
RS washer jar/over flow tank
headliner
adjust window glass
dyno
full interior
door weatherstripping
wire horn
fix dim tach light
polish valve covers
polish wheels
the list is never ending! i did manage to put 120 miles on the car doing short blasts around the neighborhood. runs good and strong, but i still have a mild oil drip coming off the back of the engine dripping off the bell housing. i would hate to have to pull the motor or drop the pan in the car (been there...) to fix the rear main.
Bishops Z/28 Jun 7th, 07, 02:31 AM That paint looks real nice.
MY FIRST 69 Jun 7th, 07, 03:48 AM thank you. my car is pretty dirty now. im scared to put water on it! ive been sticking to dusting it and wiping it down with waterless wash glossing towels.
does dusting always leave fine lines in paint? under super bright artificial light you can see fine lines in the paint that are invisible otherwise.

MY FIRST 69 Jul 13th, 07, 02:37 PM Man that sounds good. What mufflers are you running?
im running thorly tri-y headers and an off the shelf 1968 flowmaster american thunder system. i got the 68 style because it dumps the pipes next to the leaf springs, rather then tail pipes.
Joe Harrison Jul 13th, 07, 02:49 PM What is the function of the lower close out panel?
Ghostbuster Jul 13th, 07, 10:24 PM What is the function of the lower close out panel?
1) Acts as a super-duty radiator shroud, fitting tight against the radiator and lower frame area, forcing air-flow through the radiator. (similar to the top close-out panel)
2) Seals off a large portion of the lower engine bay, keeping the engine bay clean from most road debris, mud, etc. Elimnates chips on your engine, mud on your frame, rocks in your radiator.
3) Also used as a show panel, cuz it just looks so cool..!
I just bought an upper and lower, waiting for my car to come back from paint jail..
MY FIRST 69 Aug 12th, 07, 11:56 PM the hell with it all...
i just bought an LS1 and T56.

MY FIRST 69 Aug 30th, 07, 12:21 AM more updates.
the cars old fan thermostat took a dump. i was using a Derale probe in the radiator, with a 30amp in line fuse. well the fuse melted to nothing and the cars temp got to 240, luckily i was only a few blocks from home. i pulled the melted fuse out and replaced it with another, fans still didn't work. i ended up replacing the whole unit with a painless single fan relay with a 3/8 probe in the drivers side cylinder head. fans turn on at 185 now. i also installed a RS washer bottle bracket to the passenger wheel well and used the washer jar as an over flow. lastly, i decided to cut my old fan shroud at the bottom and install it around my 16'' tornado fan. it came out pretty nice. i had to secure it with zip ties at the bottom but its nothing noticeable from up top.

impzilla Aug 30th, 07, 08:48 AM Great project.
Keep it up.
MY FIRST 69 Aug 30th, 07, 09:55 AM i dropped the car off this morning. the temp never got over 185, the fan was on so the new switch and shroud is working....

Did you ever do the Billet hold down for the Optima battery? That is one awesome Camaro:thumbsup:
enginenine Dec 15th, 07, 07:37 PM Did you ever figure out why the tach light is dim? I just installed a set of autometers in a friends car and the tach is dim also. Post up if you found the problems. thx james
MY FIRST 69 Dec 16th, 07, 02:05 AM you were'nt happy the 1st. motor ?
it was cool, but the muncie and 4.11 gears sucked on the street. wasnt fun turning 4K on the freeway. i was just going to add an overdrive trans to solve that problem but the more i looked into just a trans swap, the more i wanted an ls1 and 6 speed. plus i wanted to see what was involved in the swap.
Did you ever do the Billet hold down for the Optima battery?
i bought a battery hold down but it was to large to fit in the stock location. i would have needed to trim the hell out of it to make it fit so i ended up just reselling it on protouring. i found that the stock clamp will hold the otpima good.
Did you ever figure out why the tach light is dim?
i think its just a bad bulb. i pulled the light sockets out of the speedo and the tach, turned on the dash lights and found some of the bulbs looked weak. my dash harness only has one lead for all the lights. not sure if its too much of a draw on them. i want to replace them with autometer red LED bulbs but they are $10 each. i kinda wish i went with carbon fiber gauges. i think i want to trim my car out with carbon fiber.
when i get more done i will post the progress. thanks for the kind words! the original engine and ignition system will be for sale shortly along with the radiator and headers.
jay'srs/ss Dec 16th, 07, 10:35 AM i want to replace them with autometer red LED bulbs but they are $10 each.
That's what I put in my Phantoms, buy a couple extra just incase one burns out. I had that happen already, and ya $10 is steep but worth the look.

enginenine Dec 16th, 07, 10:52 AM We put white led's in this one but the tach is still dim. It has the integrated circuit board and I wonder if if doesn't feed enough voltage to it for the led's. I'm think about putting a regular bulb holder in it. James
MY FIRST 69 Jan 4th, 08, 05:42 PM nothing is bolted down yet. i made up a quick fuel line with my Russell's pro classic fittings. any thoughts on the carb setup?
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p151/justingiese/carbmockup.jpg
and in case you are wondering how im going to tune and time the thing this will answer your questions.
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p151/justingiese/msdbox.jpg
the msd box comes with software to plot your own timing curve using a lap top with a serial to usb connector. it allows up to 6 points of timing adjustment. here is a test grid.
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p151/justingiese/timingexamplesmall.jpg
another feature is the digital dash board.
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p151/justingiese/gaugessmall.jpg
and lastly to tune the air fuel of the carb, i picked up some header collectors with O2 bungs. i plan on buying the new F.A.S.T. dual sensor air meter.

guccieng Jan 5th, 08, 12:46 AM why do you have the shroud? it's such a nice car that i think the shroud is detracting from it's personality. the electric fan doesn't benefit from it, imho. that radiator with a properly working water pump, thermostat and airflow is more than enough.
i dropped the car off this morning. the temp never got over 185, the fan was on so the new switch and shroud is working....
picked up the car 3 hours later, outside temp was 107! after a 15 minute drive the temp touched 200. you guys think the cooling system is up to par?
MY FIRST 69 Jan 5th, 08, 02:48 AM that stuff is all old news! i put the shroud on to hide the fan and possibly direct more air through the rad while i was driving. i dont think the 16" tornado was that great. in 100 degree temps the car would reach around 200-210.
the next setup will be a modified aluminum 98-02 camaro 6 speed radiator and oem z28 dual fans. i have a thermostat switch that screws into the ls1 heads that will turn the fan on at 200. and off at 190. i hear the stock ls1 fan temp was 226? damn thats high!
guccieng Jan 5th, 08, 03:03 AM driving doesn't need a shroud. sitting still does, imho. i agree that the 226 is high; that's the emission friendly way of burning exhaust gases through the cats. those of us with older cars like the 200 on/180 off way of doing things!
carbon69 Jan 5th, 08, 12:36 PM hey I think i spotted a run in the clear......jk
