View Full Version : Saturn Sky
Chris396 Sep 17th, 06, 12:17 AM I saw a new Saturn Sky the other day. Wow! I love both the Saturn and the Pontiac. I really want one. Anybody drive one? They had a Solstice locally but the saleman was giving the hard sell. They wanted $2500 over sticker which they got a couple days after I looked at the car. I'd have to get the turbo if I bought one.
67pat Sep 17th, 06, 10:48 AM I spotted the solstice in an magazine of a review of the Detroit auto show and thought wow! great looking roaster for under 20k base model now thats a winner. Then I saw the saturn model and its an even better looking car than the solstice! I talked with a guy at a Pontiac dealership in Nashville a few months after G.M. introduced the car and said it was definetly going to be built. He told me there was an 8000 person waiting list for the car right out of the box and with that demand he assured me the dealerships would screw it all up...and they have! G.M.'s plan was to sell a great looking car at an affordable price to get the public to see G.M.'s forward thinking styling of the future, brand recognition, affordability etc that alot of critics have said G.M. has lacked over the years and has caused loss of market share. The guy I talked with said if I saw the prices go up,up,up and the dealerships start doing what your talking about, that was the dealerships choice and not Pontiac. The concept and marketing is very much like the stir the Mazda Miata caused...two seat ,sporty, fun car that got people talking...I'd wait em out...Your profile says you live in MO...go in on some nice snowy day in mid December around Christmas when car sales are slow and covertable two seaters couldnt be given away, find an 06 model if you can...them offer them $2500.00 BELOW sticker...
bmaudlin Sep 17th, 06, 11:23 AM I put in an order back in June for a 2007 Redline (turbo) car, black with black/red leather interior with chrome 18 inch wheels. There are only 4000 being made this year, with a lid of total Sky sales, base and Redline to be kept around 10,000 units so it doesn't turn into another PT Cruiser. I'm paying MSRP without additional dealer markup. Supposedly a 5.5 0-60 with a 13.9 quarter advertised in literature! We'll have to see about that!! Nice little car for cruising and trips as long as you don't want to carry anything other than another passenger!
(By the way, I don't think they made an '06 model--I believe they are all '07's. I'm speaking of the Sky, not the Solstice.)
bmaudlin Sep 17th, 06, 11:29 AM P.S. As long as people are willing to pay 2-5000.00 dollars over sticker for these cars, and the supply is short, it will be hard to find one under sticker. Used ones with mileage are going for original sticker plus tax, etc.! And NO!!, I'm not a Saturn "sales consultant", I just like the looks and performance of the car for the price!!

Chris396 Sep 17th, 06, 12:36 PM GM needs to up production. They have the demand and the means. I hate Hate HATE! the whole dealer experience with markups. They've made a great couple of cars and they need to let the people buy them and have a positive buying experience. I remember back when the LT1 Camaros came out. I had friends looking to buy one with the new 6-speed at the time. The whole sleazy dealer experience turned them off permanently. By the end of the F-body run they were begging people to take the cars.
I've never bought a new car but I'm tempted to buy one of these. I refuse to play the game however. It’s hard enough for me to want to pay depreciation of normal new car ownership, much less to pay over sticker. On top of that I’m leery of buying a new model that doesn’t have the bugs worked out. My cousin was telling me of a guy who just bought a new GT 500 for $20,000 over sticker with a 72 month loan! Idiot.
I usually take my Camaro when I look at a new car because the salesmen won't go into "sales" mode with me and they let me check out whatever I want while they check out my car.

As far as upping production, I think GM is probably in the same boat as Ford, and got in too deep with SUV's that they can't sell with the price of gas what it is. And since when is GM thinking of anyone, especially the immediate wants and desires of consumers, more than of themselves?? If they have a hot commodity, and with minimal output, have consumers "jumping through rings" to own one at additional cost, why flood the market with product?
I'm surprised that they came out with the 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty--my fear is that they might not be around long enough to be able to honor guarantees!! (That's a joke--I hope!!);) Just my two cents worth, and probably way off base when it comes to corporate thinking!!
