Can door edge guards be used on a 68 RS? Is there clearance for the guards with the 6 piece RS lower moldings?

I read somewhere that you will need to loosen the RS door trim a bit and the door guard will slide under it and then retighten it. But, on my car the door trim comes right up to the edge of the RS trim.
