Now if your auto is "low compression" and you're using a "high octain gas" then you're not really burning any cleaner (I would think). octanefueled Sep 22nd, 06, 08:28 AM Your vehicle needs to be set up to run E85. From what I've read, a percentage of the fuel is alcohol, which is very corrosive to engines set up for regular gasoline. Come to think of it, I think it's 85% Ethanol (thus the E85). Yes it will run cleaner, but if you're going to go through a conversion, you might as well run pure alcohol and bump the compression a few points during the buildup. Your best bet would be to give it a nice tune up (fresh plugs) and adjust timing to pass the sniff test... dragon0123 Sep 22nd, 06, 08:57 AM Well im thinking about it more hypotheticly than anything.. ive got a 67, live in wisconsin and there is no emisisions testing in my area. Im just wondering what the emmision numbers wuold show for those that have converted.. say a big block motor that was having problems passing emisions to a e85 motor with the higher compression and compatable carb.. what those numbers would go to?? I dont think theres enough people who have converted and needed to go in for a smog check to come to those numbers yet though.. but it would be interesting to see.. |
