I have a 67 camaro that jus blew a heater core!!! i have owned 10 1st gen camaros and never had to replace one! anyone have any good tips/hints on making the job easier? do i really have to pull the fender?

I am going to replace my but I have the front clip off so the job will be easy. CarlC has told me that you can cut a hole in the inner fender well with a circular saw to access the bolts behind/under the panels. I don't know the exact location but maybe someone else can tell you where to cut.

You don't have to pull the fender. It's pretty easy except for having to pull the heater box. 1)Remove the 4 heater box screws from the engine side of the firewall. They are just stamped nuts. 2)Obviously you need to pull off the hoses.
3) Remove the heater and damper control cables from the heater box. 4)The heater box should then pull away from the firewall in the interior side of the car. Then simply replace the core.

P.S. This assumes you have a non-AC car... Not sure about AC cars with an evaporator box.

The referances I've made are for AC cars. Accessing some of the bolts and the lower heater hose is practically impossible to get to unless you remove the RH fender. Many years ago someone put a 1 1/2" hole by the lower heater hose on my car to make access easier. Non-AC cars are a breeze except for replacing the fan motor which still requires fender removal.

In the process of doin mine. Had a blower fan that would screech from time to time and hood hinges to paint and heater core went south, so I pulled the fender. Firewall pad (interior) was trashed and I guess were goin' after dash harness also. Well I always wanted console gages and the 68 tic-toc so if your doin harnesses you might as well get em now. You see where I'm goin' Anyway, the 40.00 heater core and 30.00 blower motor is gettin' out of hand. One good thing from getting in there, I found a BIG bundle of pine needles and crap below the kick panel inlet vent on the exterior of the car. Glad I caught it now. Takin the fender off (esp RS) is a JOY! Get a real nice 1/4 ratchet. -Dan in WV
