View Full Version : 69 BB Lower AC Shield
Tom Weaver Sep 27th, 06, 05:12 PM I was wondering how important it is to have the Plastic shield under the Radiator support area for an AC car. The GM part # is 3949856. I just called my local GM guy and he stated it was discontinued in 1977. Does anybody repro this item or know where to locate this part? The item can be viewed on pg 207 of the 69 assembly manual. Thanks,
Unreal Sep 27th, 06, 06:06 PM I have never seen one...although I have been looking for 5 years or so. I think there was a discussion about them about a year ago, and I think someone said they had one. I sort of remember that someone said they were on Firebirds.
JohnZ, jump in!
Tom Weaver Sep 27th, 06, 06:13 PM The guy painting my car is a Firebird guy and noted to me that this was missing. He said yes, all Birds have them. I guess what is needed is for a guy that has an unmolested 69 BB AC camero to get on board and confirm this. Maybe Charlie L in Woodland CA has something like this?
TOM BARKLEY Sep 27th, 06, 09:43 PM I would like to see one too. My 69 BB a/c it's missing !
Tom Weaver Sep 27th, 06, 09:46 PM I had a guy from Sacramento call me tonight about this discusion. He has never seen one installed on a 69 Camaro and believes it was something that never happend on the Camaro. He as well stated they are found on the Birds.
Kurt S Sep 28th, 06, 12:36 AM I've heard of them being on some Camaros, but I have no real info on this. Do a search, it has been discussed either here or on CRG. Someone had pics of an original, IIRC.
clill Sep 28th, 06, 08:25 AM I got nuthin.....
Tom Weaver Sep 28th, 06, 01:02 PM Thanks for the response by all.
tonycamaro Sep 28th, 06, 04:27 PM Tom,
I'm almost positive that it never made it to the Camaro. It was a Firebird piece.

Eric Kammerer Sep 28th, 06, 07:53 PM It made it to the Camaro too.
Thread with pics.

More discussion.

Unreal Sep 29th, 06, 11:01 AM In all that discussion, MarkX22 is the only one who has one from a Camaro. I'm still not convinced they ever actually happened. How do we know Mark's didn't have a Firebird one on it when he got the car. I know there weren't too many b/b ac cars, but I would think more than one shield would have been found by now.
Tom Weaver Sep 29th, 06, 12:19 PM Here is a message I received last night from Jerry MacNeish
Hi Tom,
Unfortunately, we don't deal with many air conditioned cars so I can't be
of much help to you. I would maybe try Larry Christensen (303-278-8536)
as he has a well rounded knowledge of stuff like this.
Good Luck,
Jerry

I just called Mr. Christensen a moment ago, and he too has seen a portion of one on 1 car along time ago. He didn't expand one bit on the conversation. Getting information from this guy was like pulling teeth. Check on Bay. Chicago Muscle is listing one for a 69 Firebird, but it looks different.

Rob69RSSS Sep 29th, 06, 06:11 PM My X22 AC car has two bolts in the front of the front subframe crossmember. There is black plastic under both. There are also holes in the original radiator support that seem to line up with the mounting on the front edge of the shield. I believe that due to either damage or maintenance, most were removed and never replaced.

A Schab Sep 30th, 06, 05:30 PM Tom,the 69 firebird part is not the same as the 69 camaro part. The birds use one part# for 67- 68 and another # for 69,both are metal. In bird talk these are referd to as lower pans or baffles, they also have two upper pans and two rubber core support flaps. These parts are not on all birds, they are on all a/c and 400 cars.On a side note I have a 68 camaro a/c car and it has a metal bird style lower pan on it but I don't know if it's been added or is factory.Tom ,sorry to bring all of this up again. Andy. P.S. I got your pace car today, call me if you see this.
Tom Weaver Sep 30th, 06, 05:41 PM Thanks Andy. That's what I thought. After reading other post from the past, this part is gonna be harder to locate than those 69 Convert AC Baffles I need. I wonder why none of this stuff has ever been reproduced? Especially now that they offer the new 69 bodies in either AC or with out.
Thanks again,
Unreal Oct 1st, 06, 10:14 PM Tom,
I think I saw a pair of ac convt baffles on ebay in the last few days. I did not pay too much attention, but I remember the pic showing curved baffles. Actually, the ad may have called them "RS Baffles" but don't hold me to that.
Tom Weaver Oct 1st, 06, 10:43 PM I'm looking on EBAY, but can't find them. If you can find the link or auction # please let know...Thanks again to all.
