I looked at a car today , a 69 camaro No Xcode car , It's Pretty much an old project car . The sheet metal is nice the floors are good , trunk has pin wholes but firm . quarters where done i guess 10 years ago , they are half quarters i don't like them at all you can see the welds .the car is still in primer , starting to surface rust in the lightly primer areas .
The interior i was told was new and it is but it's a nasty Velvet 70s look . So it needs an interior . , Keep in mind it will need all rubber and trim restored .
The motor is a 454 not running , with a power glide trans yuck ! He guy claims the motor is new with only 1000 miles on it , how ever it's been sitting for 10 years right ?And he doesn't know how it was built .
The rear is a 12 bolt , he does not know what gears the glass is out and missing front and back . No gauges and disc brakes . He seems to think it's worth 10 k firm . what do you think , keep in mind imay have to restrip the car and redo the quarters .

Even if you could get him down to $7000. You have to take alot of other factors into account. With the prices of quarters, car parts, engines, and paint. Some projects could get out of hand quickly money wise and you could spend more money easily on a better condition car and be a much better value. BELIEVE ME!!!!!!!!!!!

You could not give me a car in this condition today. I would use the 10K as a down payment and get a loan and be driving and keep the wrenching more in the tinkering catagory, Winter project. With the way the Camaro is appreciating, Interest rates dont matter unless your paying off Gwetto the loan shark.

My response is just the tip of the iceberg, I could write for hours on this subject.

Did I mention that my friend named an obssesion after me but that was many years ago and at 80's prices: Philitis

No more than $7K. I bought my '69 RS for $11,500 several months ago, built in Nov. '68 so it has no X-code either. The car was not perfect but I drove it home and it has a full Vintage AC system in it. Most of the RS stuff is gone so I am putting a standard grill in it for now. I still feel like I got a great deal.

c1,

Be patient. I had an early built Norwood car with an X-code and I tried like heck to find another one in decent shape. No luck so I bought one iwth an X-code. It's not an SS or Z28 or Big Block car unfortunately. In any case I think 10k is too much. Trust me on this one. I paid more than that for the 1969 Camaro I just purchased. It ran and ran well but needed lots of work with the wiring, getting rid of the fuel cell in the trunk, battery, alternator, washer pump, voltage regulator, differential, I could go on and on and on. I still have more work to do with the wiring and other parts of the car. ....I could have paid 5 grand or even $7,500 more and bought a way better car with less headaches.

The bottom line: Hang in there. If you want a project car, buy one that runs. This way you know if the brakes are messed up, suspension, etc. I looked at some cars that were race cars and were worth the money. But they were cut, tubbed, caged, and basically full drag cars. I did not want that. I looked at rollers that were good and junk. 10k for a project roller that doesn't run is too much. You will be able to find one that runs in the prices you mentioned $10k and $13,500 for better shape. If you can afford it I would recommend the 17k range and get yourself a much nicer car. God I miss my first 1969 Camaro. Good Luck in your search and be patient!!.

Keep in mind that the X11 code is only a minor trim package and really has minimal affect on the value in my mind. Ebayers seem to always hype that their car is X11... whoopdeedooo, it carries little to the overall value compared to condition. just my 2cents

10k Is overboard IMO. If you want a more accurate estimate, post some pics of the car. I wouldn't go a penny over 7k, if even that. Your better off finding a car in better condition.

It will almost always cost more to restore a car to a newer condition, compared to buying a car already in that condition.
