View Full Version : Vehicle History Search
Tom Weaver Sep 29th, 06, 01:49 PM Is there any way possible of tracking your cars history back to where it originally originated? I have an orig CA 69 plated car that I believe to be a life long Sacramento car and another that has been moved all over the US. This one currently has a Georgia title.
Rack Man Sep 29th, 06, 08:46 PM Use the "Search" function (on the top right of the page) and you will find much reading enjoyment on the subject ...as it has been discussed many times...

Gregs68U-U Oct 5th, 06, 05:36 PM You can request thru DMV a vehicle history. DMV requires that you are requesting the information for "legal" reasons. They are listed on the form. Also, legally you are not to try to contact any previous owners with the information the DMV provides you.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Tom Weaver Oct 5th, 06, 05:54 PM I talked with the DMV in CA and they told me since my car has been in storage since 96 and not on the road, it has fallen off the records. I gave them my title number, my registration and the Very First owner's name and registration and nothing. They told me this car doesn't come up in there system like it never existed. Maybe it was just the individual I was dealing with???
bigblockpace Oct 5th, 06, 09:21 PM Good Luck!
blue ss Oct 6th, 06, 05:40 AM Ca. is bad about keeping records like that. I had the exact same experiance.
I wrote them with the proper forms and got back the same info. as you.
stope4 Oct 6th, 06, 04:24 PM same here regarding California.
Tom Weaver Oct 6th, 06, 05:05 PM This state really ticks me off because they charged me over 500 bucks back in Jan of 97 for a Brake and Lamp fee? to register the car, then I recieved orders to leave the country a month later. After payying the fee (I'm not a CA resident) to put it back on the books they now want me to do the same thing since my arival back in the state. The bad thing is I've only drove this car three times in 14 yrs. (all of which was around the Block. I'll pass. It'll have WA States Plates next week. Home of record...
davidpozzi Oct 7th, 06, 07:05 PM Tom,
Is it a Van Nuys built car? (LOS) on tag?
Why do you believe it was a CA car?
Tom Weaver Oct 7th, 06, 07:26 PM I have the original Black CA plate with the 69 tag on it that matches the orig registration with the original owners name. They lived on 7466 Sylvia Way in Sac CA. The daughter still lives ther to this day. The Gentleman that bought it new is now 70 yrs old living in the area. Yes it is an LOS car. The Lady's number is now unlisted, so I can't get a hold of her:(
Gregs68U-U Oct 9th, 06, 12:28 PM once those black plates are gone, you're going to have a hard time ever putting them back on, if they ever let you. Just an FYI.

Unreal Oct 10th, 06, 09:10 AM What do you want to know from the first owner? It might be worth the dirve to visit the daughter. Maybe she'll get you in touch with her father, and you can ask him whatever you want. Maybe even get him to sign a affidavid stating the originality of the car. I'd have one made up with what you think the car was, and get him to sign if it it turns out to be true.
ROAD TRIP!!!!
