Dumb answers, yes, and I’m full of them. Just ask my wife! Try this link. They have a lot of good information. http://www.powdercoating.org/benefits/ In a nutshell, powder coating is a process where an electrically charged powder is sprayed onto a metallic surface with an opposite electrical charge. It's sort of like electric arc or MIG welding. The coated part is then sent through an oven where the baked powder bonds to the metallic surface and creates the surface appearance. The advantages to powder coating are many. It's environmentally friendly since the powder overspray can be captured in a filter. It bonds extremely well to clean surfaces, is very durable, and can be had in clears, colors, and textures. The downside is that it will not coat non-conductive surfaces, the oven will melt plastics and other low-temp materials, and masking must be done with special hi-temp tapes. ------------------ Click here to see see my car and hear 5-speeds. http://www.geocities.com/casanoc gheatly Jan 4th, 01, 06:04 AM The powder is made of plastic. Basically, you are putting a thin coating of plastic on the part. ------------------ Pearl blue & white 69 Camaro with supercharged 350, Tremec TKO, and 3.73 12-bolt See my website updated 12/17/00 at: www.geocities.com/gheatly (http://www.geocities.com/gheatly) |
