Hi fellow Camaro lovers, :waving: I would like to get everyone’s opinion on a hood choice for my 1969 RS Camaro. It is an original RS 327 car with the original motor and is being painted the original color (Burnished Brown). I'm in the process of a rotisserie restoration. It will end up being somewhere between original and pro touring. I want basically the Factory look with the exception of the tires and rims. The car will lean a little toward pro-touring with upgraded sway bar, steering box with '88 IROC gears, electronic ignition, 4-speed auto, add on A/C, rear disc brakes, very streetable but beefy motor, maybe 350 to 400HP, and possibly Throttle-body injection. I do not want to go with a cowl induction hood, and definitely not the stock flat hood, so I'm considering using a SS hood I've had for twenty-five years. So my question is, what does everyone think about a SS hood on an RS car? :clonk: I will love it but do not want to be ridiculed/corrected every time I show it or actually hurt the value of the car. With all the modifications to these cars, I hope it will be accepted without being considered a joke. I would appreciate different opinions. Thanks everyone. Since you're asking for opinions....
I like the SS hood a lot, used one myself. I do think it looks best when used with the full SS stripe and emblem setup tho. I suppose if you want to clone an SS, do it? but if you don't then stick with the flat hood.

I think a cowl hood looks better with the pro-touring look but I personally like SS hoods better so I wouldn't hesitate using it one bit. Don't worry about what other people think. No matter what you do there will always be jerks at shows who have something negative to say. Their opinions are worthless. Unless you are going 100% original, the type of hood you use will have not any effect on the value of the car.

I think you would be ahead of the game with a stock flat hood on your RS. Nothing wrong with the SS hood I have one on my RS but it's painted and badged to look like an SS. I also have a cowl hood on my nova, I just think with the options/mods you mention the hood needs to stay flat for you to achieve some degree of a stock look...

I added the RS front and rear to my car, and wanted to keep the correcr exterior look for RS. I kept the 307 emblems, and the style trim, which was part of RS for 69, and includes wheel opening moldings, black body sill, and fender pinstriping, along with the flat hood. I like the look - it's kind of sleeper, yet kind of flashy with the RS front and rear treatments.

I too think that if you choose an SS hood you should treat it to SS emblems.

Your choice though - do whatever blows your hair back.

Since you already have two out of three, just buy a cowl hood and paint all three
I'm serious, that way you can change the look in less than 10 minutes, and down the road whoever buys it cant say......I wish it had a different hood :clonk:

Hey Al, thanks for your opinion. Wondered if you can give me some of the pro's and con's for the 4-speed auto swap on your car. Things like what trans mount is needed for the 200 trans, the type of shift cable needed, drive shaft modifications, etc. Any help would be very much appreciated! My email is: cicoriaa@infionline.net Thanks again and take care, Tony
