Hey guys;
I've gotten the 69 Z/28 back from paint, I'm working the fender adjustments right passenger
seems to lign up well. Drivers door to Cowl is low/ door is high to fender?
I'm trying to lign it all up starting at the cowl
is this correct? What I mean is the doors fit well all original sheet metal fenders ect..
I removed the hood as the painter incorrectly
installed the washer nozzles(plates were under the cowl) and the sheet meatl fit like crap.
Started with the cowl but the Stainless trim lower must go on first. I'm playing #@&& to get the top of the fender and the cowl to aling?
and every time I have to remove the cowl to adjust the stainless trim for better alignment I scratch paint. And I'm using the (lower stainless)trim on for alignment. as it slips in the lower clips for the trim.
Should I have the steel off for this?
Thanks guys
Todd

on my project.
i get the fender to line up with the door first (+ or - shims) then i will work to get the cowl to line up last.
as i remember, my cowl panel did have shims under it from the factory.

I plan on door alignment first.
But I can't figure the cowl to fender at windshield. Do you guys adjust it with stainless on or off? And this is where I've got the most work it's just not lining up. I'm moving the fender up and down right now and the cowl at the stainless is high to the fender. With about .200" shim at top fender, adjusting up and I don't think I can get the door much higher than that. This is with the hood off I can't wait till I put the hood on then I'll probably have to start all over again to get that to lign up. Brian Martin how about a all expense paid trip to Lancaster to do some adjust'n. He He...

Get the door alined with the 1/4, check for proper gap along the rocker to door. get the fender in place and shim and adjust bottom of fender first at the gap to the door.
install top bolts on fender while adjusting the gap at the top. I wouldnt be concerned with the cowl until all other panels are in place .

The only gap as far as the cowl screen that is important is the space between the fender.

I would not put the windsheild moulding on until you are ready to . The only screws that will be tough are the screws in the door jamb under the rear of the fender.

A little trick for adjusting the gap between the fender and door is to mount the core support to the frame, mount the fender to the core support, and place a jack under frame rail towards the rear of the subframe the weight of the frame, motor and all that good **** will pull down on the front of the fender which will tighten the gap between the fender to rocker and the door.
