View Full Version : 69 Z28 barn find finally home
throzoo Oct 2nd, 06, 08:54 PM thought i would start a new post as the other was getting quite long
made it home last night after 3000 miles of driving with the z28 that was in barn for over 20 years covered in dust. Owner had taken it from the barn and washed the car and had all parts pulled out and ready to go for me. I think he had tears in his eyes as I was leaving. I have a couple pics of it cleaned up that i'll try and post
al8apexer Oct 4th, 06, 10:15 AM awaiting the pics
hope you took plenty in the "before" condition
1PartsGuy Oct 4th, 06, 11:05 AM Yes Please Pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!
throzoo Oct 4th, 06, 06:22 PM ill have pics in the morning, before I arrived the owner removed it from the barn and washed the car and cleaned out the interior and the trunk, the smell would take your breath away.. I was actually hoping to do the washing when i got home...and now that it is safely in my hands i can say that it came from western Oklahoma where it has been since 1969. I got all the extra parts that the owner had as well, found the 480 distributor in a box behind a bunch of other stuff. Other than needing some work on the quarters its very solid, paint is still shiny on the floors under the carpet. Had about 4 offers to sell it on the way home. I do have a couple pics of it still on my trailer if i can post them and try and link them
zdld17 Oct 4th, 06, 07:07 PM Western Okla is not far from me. Very dry. Good to hear you got it home. Post the pictures.
thewebb1 Oct 4th, 06, 07:24 PM Another one comes to our great white north!!! Question, if its been called a Z(pronounce zeee) all it's life, will it still come when you call it a Zed (proper way to pronounce):) EH!
All kidding aside, nice find.
throzoo Oct 4th, 06, 07:37 PM hah..when i was dealing with the owner i referred to it as a "zed" a few times, all i got was ..its a zee, whats a zed? ..same as "yall" and "eh"...I have the new pics in photobucket, trying again to link it here
throzoo Oct 4th, 06, 07:59 PM can't link it,maybe someone with more comp knowledge than me can do it
c1run1 Oct 4th, 06, 09:26 PM How did ya find it ?

c1run1 Oct 5th, 06, 01:23 AM Wow thats cool . glad to see some one got lucky : )
Still looking << may be forced to shop Ebay
mstehle Oct 5th, 06, 01:42 AM I can set them up on photobucket if you want. Email them to me at Rivparadise@hotmail.com and I will do this for you. We are all anxious to see the pics of the car cleaned up. If I remember the other pics correctly it looked like an entire herd of mice had set up home in the trunk.

May have to open up a can of coffee and roll up windows, let it set for about a month. If there was any cross breeding between mice and rabbits,,, you will have some awfully fast large mice.
throzoo Oct 6th, 06, 06:43 PM they must have been big, took out the back seat today and found several of the rear seatbelts have been chewed up pretty bad, i did find the crayon mark of the "7" on the bulkhead, took a pic of it, pretty clear but there is some glue that has been sprayed on the that area, got date code of rear end
BU0506G2, then E under that, no surprises yet on the car, came with an extra door to replace the passenger that was hit 25 years ago
mstehle Oct 7th, 06, 03:39 AM Okay folks here are the pics. The car looks really good to me.

Everett#2390 Oct 7th, 06, 06:05 AM Agreed, looks real nice. Needs air in driver side tires and a washer hose.
I remember the decals from the 70's.

Does the rear code out : 3:73, May 06, 69? Looks like the boy is asking, Daddy , can I drive? Thats gonna be a good future photo for him.
c1run1 Oct 7th, 06, 08:50 AM very nice good luck with it
Gary L Oct 7th, 06, 10:32 AM AS you have time available, I would appreciate some pictures of all that original paint. Cowl area, rear window area showing stripes. Thanks.
thewebb1 Oct 7th, 06, 03:34 PM Great find. Do you have pics of the other four.
I say let the kid drive it. He can brag his first car was a camaro.:)
throzoo Oct 7th, 06, 05:53 PM thanks for the comments, the kids like the car, wife likes it better than my elcamino and monte carlo, I do have pics of the 69 rs car, just a shell and subframe but very solid, the other 69 i do have some it, its going to be sold to help pay for the Z, also have pics of the other 2 that i'll be going down for this coming week, and i will get some extra pics of the paint etc, still has the green paint P,B,T stamps on firewall
thewebb1 Oct 7th, 06, 08:16 PM Boy, I thought I had to many projects. My hat is off to you. Nice to see these cars being saved. Keep the pictures coming.
Kurt S Oct 7th, 06, 08:30 PM It is a nice starting point.
I didn't take any pics of the cowl (too dirty), but it is very typical Z painting. Some white on the top of the cowl, but not complete coverage.
Oh, and it did stink..... :)
Troybarber Oct 8th, 06, 02:21 PM Nice find, how many miles does the car have on it? Did the the seller have any of the original documentation?
throzoo Oct 8th, 06, 05:23 PM car has 65,000 on it which is original, hasnt gone around..I have the pics of the RS car to show the back up lamps and cowl area to see if everything looks original..again my apologies for not being able to figure out that link to photobucket
mstehle Oct 8th, 06, 05:37 PM Throzoo:
I sent and email reply to your regular email along with the link to photobucket, your user ID and password I set up for you. It shouldn't be too difficult from there. Just click the button to upload pictures and go to explorer and double click the pictures you want to upload. You can do it, it's not too difficult.
Mark
throzoo Oct 8th, 06, 06:22 PM have the images loaded up but linking here is where i'm having problems
if you go up the page a bit to the link the pics are there, a couple of the Z and also the 69 rs, the 67rs with a tag pic as well, the 68 coupe and one of my Monte Carlo that my father and I just finished...no laughing at the "custom" overhead light in the Z
mstehle Oct 8th, 06, 06:52 PM Go to photobucket, login and go to your album of pictures. Highlight the address in the address bar, this will be the URL that starts with HTTP up top, it will turn blue when you have it highlighted. Hold down the ctrl key in the lower left of your keyboard and then hit c and release both keys. Then go to this thread. Start a reply and with the cursor in the reply box hit ctrl V jsut like you did ctrl c earlier. This will paste the link to your pics in your reply.
Good luck.

zdld17 Oct 9th, 06, 11:49 AM Kool interior dome map light,, just missing the crystal and fan.
69CamaroRT Oct 9th, 06, 02:31 PM great find. the r/s looks legite, the cutouts in the tailpanel looks like a factory cut.
throzoo Oct 9th, 06, 05:43 PM I thought they looked factory, id like to keep it to but the z will take priority, cant fix them all, though i would like to
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Oct 9th, 06, 06:55 PM The old school dome/rolling light is still intact, id bet there were many twisted using that light.
mstehle Oct 9th, 06, 07:05 PM You mean that thing is supposed to be there? Wow, I do have a lot to learn. Do you think if you were fast enough on the switch you could get the strobe light effect? That would be failrly cosmic after you stopped to twist.
Mark:p
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Oct 9th, 06, 07:17 PM No its not supposed to be there, maybe a pothead owned it at one time is all im saying.
mstehle Oct 10th, 06, 04:24 AM That makes more sense. It might also explain all the really hungry mice and rabbits that inhabited the car for years and just wouldn't leave. I guess throzoo will have to be prepared for the car to naturally stop at all the mini marts for oreos.
