View Full Version : 67 Rally Wheel Flat Caps won't fit--too big
Brentmc Oct 3rd, 06, 09:58 AM I picked up a set of "Wheel Vintiques" '67 flat rally caps for my car at Carlisle last week.
I've spent about 45 minutes so far trying to get them on two of my wheels.
They will not fully seat in the center of the wheel--if I pop one side in, the other side pops out. I can get it mostly on but at least one side will not be flush with the wheel.
I'm using a rubber mallet, my feet and/or just my hand pushing evenly on both sides.
The no-name, lesser quality flat caps and the GM high hat caps both fit the wheel perfectly. These do not fit.
Any suggestions or recommendations? These are nice caps and appear to be high quality. What could be wrong here?
Cal69 Oct 3rd, 06, 02:15 PM Are you putting them on original GM rally wheels or Wheel Vintiques repos? I have heard that the repo caps do not always fit well on the OEM wheels. I have Wheel Vintiques repo wheels, rings and caps and they all fit great. I am using the '67 disk brake short caps.

I'm hoping there is a way to get them to fit...
deejaygee Oct 4th, 06, 11:16 PM I had same problem. Very frustrating. Try this, might work for you too:
Take all four caps, go to first wheel.
Try all four, one will fit perfect.
Take remaining three caps, one will fit perfect on the next wheel.
Repeat with two remaining caps and two remaining wheels.
With luck on your side, the fourth will pop in and you can send me a case a beer in thanks.
Brentmc Oct 5th, 06, 05:33 AM Hmmmm...I'll try it tonight and see what happens.
Brentmc Oct 6th, 06, 05:39 AM  The flat caps still will not fit my wheels (15x7 FW code & 15x8 AG code Rallys). They are just slightly too big and I appear to be stuck with a beautiful set of non-fitting flat caps.
I called WheelVintiques and asked if they had any suggestions on how to make them fit. The tech said:
"that's too bad, I don't know what to tell you...we do not guarantee that our rally caps will fit GM rally wheels...those wheels are 30-40 years old...we can't guarantee that they will fit. There is nothing we can do for you"
I then asked him "so, based on this conversation, I can tell folks on the Team Camaro website that your rally caps will probably not fit OEM wheels?"
His answer was, "sure, whatever".
All of this and their website sells rally caps specifically identified as for OEM rally wheels (Item #1015). But they flat out told me that the caps are not guarenteed to fit and they can do nothing to help me if they do not.
I can understand one cap *maybe* not fitting, but four caps that are all equally too big? I have never seen this type of attitude and apathy from a vendor--how can you sell caps for OEM rallys and then say that you can't promise they will fit? What's up with this?!
k9ulan Oct 10th, 06, 02:29 PM wow.i hate it for you, but thanks for the info..i was trying to decide on new caps ansd rings or maybe new chrome wheels, and that is the brand of capi was gonna order, not so sure now...hope something works out fr you..
mingoe Oct 17th, 06, 04:43 PM I also purchased a set of Wheel Vintiques rally rims. I had nothing but problems. Litterally had to smash the caps on the rims and still lost one. I was lucky enough to get Summit to take them back after they confirmed the problem at their shop. Finally, bought OEM rims, caps and rings at swap meet and have had no problems
