Hello Friends......

........Quick question- I have accepted that my Muncie is not #'s matching for my car but I am still a little confused. I have my POP and the tranny info on it calls for a P7E12 date stamp but The code on my trans shows P8C12 with a small 'c' after it, Does this amount to a M22 or am I more confused than I thought?

I have looked for any other stamping but can't find any. The main case number is 660.

Thanks in advance,

I have two 68 muncies one M20 and one M21 and they both have that little C
They didn't add the suffix letter until the 69 model year. I too am a little curious to what that little C is.Someone must know

Interesting. I also have a 68 muncie with that same stamping. The VIN on it is also a little odd, since it only has 5 letters for the partial.

The one I have has two grooves on the input shaft, which would point to M20.

I'll get some pics of it up tomorrow to see how it compares.

I've seen that for years.
Some 67's have an extra half digit too.

No idea. It may have been an internal code or it may be meaningless.

Thanks for the replies, The trans is in the car and hopefully it'll be a while before I need to pull it to check the rings.

Keith, you dont need to pull the trans. You just need to do a little detective work and a little math.

1. find out your rear end ratio
2. measure the diameter of the rear tire
3. read this page http://www.camaros.net/techref/ftecref24.html
4. take a drive and check your RPM in 1st gear and at certain MPH to verify your math. 1st gear (2.56) = M20, (2.20)=M21,M22 (if trans whines it is an M22 :)
