Tag is real....Its an LA car, so no reason to forge a repro.

I was going to post that one but waited. What about the block stampings, looks like they were struck very hard. Look at the top of the V,7, D,Z.. I've never noticed stampings the have stretched the iron out that much.

the block stampings look legit, notice the tops of all are deeper than the bottoms

too bad someone painted the fricking firewall body color

The stamps look good. Broach marke are there. Wonder how much of the 302 parts are there? Alternator, distributor, intake, carb etc. How high will this one go?

It seems not even 50% of Z/28's or DZ's are real these days. It has to be fake until proven real I guess.

The DOO7 is options correct ?

That is just the internal plant code. Has nothing to do with options, just which day and sequence in which it was built.

I've seen originals that look that fresh. Can't always judge by that......
This one is a good job, pretty close.

I agree with that. If a block has been tanked, and the stamp has never been marred, it will look fresh.

I have had a few California built Supersports and Z-28's. The body numbers on the deck are always stamped with different size numbers. I would agree with Kurt that it is a restamp ?

Jim,
It's a restamp, but not based on that.

Calling a block a restamp is not as easy as most trim tags....

So are you saying not all of the blocks had 2 different size numbers and letter stamped ??

There was another DZ block posted on this site about a year and a half ago with the exact same date code and suffix. They are a tad different, and that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Uhmm..... Not sure if it is my eyes or just a bad picture.... but on the pictures of the stamping that starts with a V - you can actually see, I think, the stamping right across a rust spot. How could that be? V, 1, 7, D are pretty bad.

I also agree that the block stampings are heavy. But in today's world and with the quality and consistency of GM in the 1960's & 1970's (yea right!!) I would assume it's fake until proven otherwise with documentation. That's the sad part today. 15+ years ago it wasn't that way. That's why everyone now wants L.A./Van Nuys Camaro's or early Norwood cars so they can clone them. It's sad to see that the cars we love are being manipulated everyday for profit.

Please note I am not saying this car is real or fake. I have no idea eitehr way. I am just saying caveat emptor---Buyer Beware!!
