View Full Version : Jerky acceleration, Tranny slipping?

I recently changed my solenoids in my tranny and everything ran great for about 3000 miles. Now if I give half throttle or more it is jerky accelerating. If I hammer it down, like say to pass somebody, the RPMS will shoot up to 4000 as it downshifts and then just stays there not accelerating or losing speed. I can also hear a somewhat loud pinging type noise. Almost like the valves pinging but louder. If I let off a little it will shift back up to overdrive and will slowly accelerate. It just started doing this a couple days ago. Just want to know what's wrong now. BTW it is a '97 V6 automatic.

Thanks
Scott

sounds to me like your engine in pinging.
a higher octane fuel might correct this .
or a timing change
