HI All, had a quick question...I did a search and found some info on What Lockup does in a 700r4. I am going to order a new Stall Converter tomorrow...How can I tell if my 700r4 is lockup or not...?? From what I understand if I have a lockup up converter I need to stay with that style.

Thanks
Chris

Lockup converters will run cooler that no-lockup. Also, depending on the stall of your converter, rear end ratio etc, that all comes into play as to how it will react at crusiing speed. One more thing, you can buy a kit to have the converter only lock in 4th gear which helps with cruisng around town.

If you have a lockup now and went to a non-lockup it doen't matter, if you went the other way, you need to do some wiring to get the lockup to work.

I "think" all 700r4's have the ability to run a lockup converter.

I think a web search will provide info on the electrical connectors on the trans and provide a way to determine for sure if your trans supports a lockup converter.

I have used the B&M lock up controlers and the have a slide bar and work off of the speedo cable speed per revolution...When I go racing I slide the bar all the way over to the right make the trans never lock-up. when your on the freeway you can adjust it anywhere you want the trans to lock-up. I suggest you not lock up too soon it will drag your car down big time. gives you about another 2-3 hundred rpm drop and will run cooler. Hope this helps, Jim -J D Race.com

Locking my 700R4 converter in third gear is worth about 2 tenths and 3 mph in the quarter, from 11.9 @ 114 to 11.7 @ 117. It also lets me tow trailers with my car because the converter isn't overheating.
