Hi, and thanks in advance for any help. I am looking at a June 1970 Z-28. It has a 3970014 block in it. I thought they came with the 3970010 blocks. The seller swears that he has had many 1970 Z's with the 3970014 blocks, and they are original. My books show the 3970014 was used in a 70 camaro but with the 300 horse. Does anyone know for sure if they used the 3970014 block in the 70 Z's ?? Or has anyone ever seen this ?? Maybe it was stamped ?? Thanks, Jim

My book shows the 3970010 block coming into production in late April of 69 and was used through 1975. Frankk

Thanks for the thoughts. I would think it would have to be the 0010. Jim

I chased down what was supposed to be the possible original engine for a 05
E 70 z. I called the guy who had it and he said it was a 014 casting. I didn't go look at it, expecting an 010. I asked this same question on Nastyz28.com and got no response. I now wonder if I missed getting the original engine.

I wish I knew for sure. My Alan Colvin book says 0010 is the 300 and 360 horse and the 0014 is a 300 horse ?? The seller cames he has has other 70 Z's with the 0014. I am not going to buy the car unless I find out for sure. Thanks

I have never seen an 014 z/28 block in person. All the reall ones have been 010 blocks including my mid May block built at Flint engine. Maybe I am wrong but I would have to see it to believe it.

dang...I got a 014 block siting behind my shed!!! I pretty sure the 010 blocks are the Z-28's...cause the 014 is the 300hp in the first gens and then went down to 245hp the early second gens I believe.....or L-65 blocks....if i'm not wrong....

Sounds kinda like the 388 69 block. A few years ago they were thought to be rare and were questionable. But it seems like someone would have an matching number car with one in it.

If that casting # was used in 70 SS350's, then it could have come in a 70 Z. A 4 bolt block is a 4 bolt block, nothing unique about that application.
Just like a '69 618 block could be any 4" bore motor.
