Hi:

I've got a 69 RS/SS 350 convertible and the original bill of sale shows it as first being sold in the early part of1970. I've talked to the original owner and the car is supposedly the real deal.

The casting block # is 3956618. Is it possible to tell what year the block was manufactured and what model car it was for.

I'm trying to find out if the engine could be original. The #'s appear to match but with all the restamps out there I want to find out if it could be real based on the casting block #.

Thanks, Pete

The casting date of the block will tell you when the block was cast and the stamp pad at the front of the passenger side head should have the build date of the engine. The cast date should be on the opposite of the back of the block from the casting number you have provided. I believe that the 618 block was a 69 only casting. What is the cowl tag info? The partial vin should be stamped on the block as well. Look on the rough casting vertically above the oil filter for the vin number if it is not on the stamp pad.
