I did the rear main seal and oil pan gasket today. I noticed a tiny drip coming from the tranny line where it goes into the tranny, at the fitting. I cannot seem to get a good grip with a wrench to really snug it down. Any ideas about stopping this leak? I am not sure how tight tey are supposed to be, but they actually feel pretty tight, yet there is that one tiny drip.


Also, if I have fluid coming from the overflow on the tranny, should I drain the tranny and refill it (to the proper level, I know I over filled it), or let it drip out until it stops. I know that probably sounds stupid, but I don't want to take the pan off and drain it if it isn't necessary.

if it's overfull, drain some out.

Rather than popping the pan gasket, yank the driveshaft, get some angle on the car and I bet enuf will drain out the back.

Thats what I'll do.

Sorry about the topic line looking like a third grader typed it. My hands are claw like right now from gripping tools all day. :)

I took a flare wrench that fit my tranny cooler fittings at the tranny, cut it about 3/4" behind the wrench end, took an old extra 1/2" socket and welded it to the 3/4" or so wrench handle left after cutting it. Whamo, instant flare tool crows foot that I can then put a extra long socket extension on and get up to my cooler lines.

I had to do this because back when I installed the engine and tranny I forgot to put them on before putting on the headers. The tool works great.

I was an instant gratification needed person at the time, thats why I made mine.

I used a crow foot on 3/8ths extension and ratchet. Dab a bit of vaseline or grease on the fitting above the knurl so the nut turns easier on the metal as well. Make sure the inside edge of the line is super smooth as well. 0000 steel wool will clean any debris off it and again a dab of grease, (very small amount) just to help it seal up tight.
