This trans is not in a camaro but I was hopeing someone could help out. A friend of mine built a early 80's chev pickup for bracket raceing and can't get the 2-3 shift right. The truck has a olds 455 engine and a 700r4 trans. The problem is the 2-3 shift is to late and he has to lift the petal to get it to shift into 3rd gear. The 1-2 shift is about 5000 -5500 rpm but the 2-3 shift will go to over 6000 rpm and still not shift unless he backs off the petal. He has lighter springs in the gov and has tryed puting a lighter spring in the 2-3 shift valve but still has the problem. The engine makes gobbs of power but is basicly a stock bottom end and he is afraid something will break at speeds over 5500 rpm. WE belive the tv setup to be right it is a stock bracket and cable and the trans shifts fine on normal driveing.

Does the tranny shift automatically or does he try to use a shifter?

He needs to put a heavier spring on the 2-3 shift valve. I would use a stock one and shim it.
