Hi guys, just curious, is there a real good product you've used for your top that will act as a sort of conditioner? My top is getting a little dry and brittle, usually I avoid putting crap on it since it just ends up making a mess and it looks funky, but I think it could really use something at this point. The car lives indoors only now, but the years of exposure to the elements seem to have taken thier toll.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions :beers:

Thanks for the input Mark, does it leave the top overly shiney at all? thats the one thing I'm concerned with, though my car is black so it won't stand out much. I thought 8-10 years ago I saw some sort of top conditioner at the shop that put my new top on, they are gone now unfortunately, and I can't recall what it was for sure. I'll look into the 303 protectant, it's at most the parts houses isn't it?
Thanks again.
(beautiful car by the way)

I had a vinyl roof car yrs ago, used pledge....I have used pledge on all my cars for 30 odd yrs, for interor
My 69. after owning for 26yrs, used daily, still has orginal door panels, upholstery, consol etc in mint condition....I put this down to the pledge.
Other cars I have seen that use armorall and products like it all eventually dry warp and crk
In NZ we have sever sun, ozone layer issues, so if anywhere a place where vinyl roofs, dashes are going to mess up it is here.

Sean no it doesn't stay glossy thats why I like it and it does protect from the UV rays , I can buy it here in Canada but I looked for it when I was down on the weekend for the smap meet and I didn,t see it in the stores I was in .You can get it on Ebay if you do a search .

I'm pretty sure that stuff is recommended by Toneaumasters for the bed cover on my truck. Looking at the thing after 3 years, I'm kinda wishing I'd picked some up and used it once ina while!

Cool, good info guys  .
I'm sure I've seen it around before, just not sure where, I'll have to check some of the specialty parts stores around town.
Pledge huh? thats a new one to me, but I can believe it. I know armorall is not good at all, it drys and cracks the vinyl, and just looks like crap IMO, plus it's hell for repainting if it's oversprayed on the paint. I always use lexol "vinylex" on my vinyl parts, but its a bit to glossy for my top.
Thanks for the tips!

Found it on the net, the site has a locator feature, plus it says NAPA carries it nationwide, so there I go I guess. http://www.303products.com/main.php
Around my house lots of boat places carry it, must be good for the vinyl parts in harsh conditions.
Guess I'll stop by NAPA and give it a try, thanks!

Pledge huh? thats a new one to me, but I can believe it.
I used to work for SC Johnson yrs ago, in the Labs....
It was because of the solvents/saponifiers and oils/waxs used in pledge being same/similar to those used in the vynl manufacture process.
the vynal not only breaks down with UV but the biggest problem is it looses the sovents in it under heat...
Ever noticed on a new car the inside of the windsheild glass gets a film on it? this is the from the vynal on the dash and interior. A older car doesnt get this build up.
Pledge soakes into the vynl, and the waxes seal...it is also designed to remove the old wax and dirt (it also cleans) and replace with a new film when buffed.
Spray, lighty scrubb with a soft nail brush..(depending on how dirty) let nearly dry and buff off with a damp rag once or twice a yr, depending if the car is a daily or show...in between a quick spray using as little as possible and quick buff with a rag brings the vynals up like new.

Mark, holy smokes the stuff is not real easy to find, plus I have not had time to look too hard. But I did find it, Hogland's top shop in Everett, on Evergreen way, they had two or three types of it, I got the stuff for vinyl, I'll see how it works soon I hope. Let me know if you need a phone# or address, and it was 14.99$, that about right?

Cool Mark, thanks again for the tip. I'll try it out this weekend,my top is dry and neglected and needs to be taken care of, but in decent shape really. I'm going through the car so I can use it this summer, I drove it daily for 10+ years, over 250K miles, then it got retired and put on the back burner for a few years. If I can find time between work and the Camaro, I'll be cruising my ragtop 5 liter mustang (yes a Camaro and and a Mustang :D ) again this summer, gotta love a ragtop.

I use 303 as well. Not glossy. Just makes everything look "new".
Great UV protectant. I use it on my black convertible top boot which takes a beating in the sun.

I still have the original black convertible top on my '67. It was faded and had some brownish spots on it. I found some stuff at a local dollar job lot store. I bought one bottle for $1 and now wish I'd bought 5 bottles. I can't find it anywhere and I only have a half bottle left. It comes in a windex type spray bottle and is a clear liquid. The name on the bottle is "Zymol" premium protection for leather, vinyl and rubber. Made by Zymol Enterprises in Chicago. Says it contains exclusive UV ray inhibitor, Shea butter from the African Karite tree?? and Balsam Copaiba?? from the Amazon rain forest. Sounds like BS to me, but the stuff works great! Spray it on, and wipe down with a soft cloth. The top stays looking new for about 3 months. Wish I could find it again. There's an 800 # on the bottle, I may just call to see if they're still around.

You might want to try a boating store for the 303. I get mine at Boaters World here locally, also saw it at Bass Pro Shops in the boating section. I think you can order it from www.overtons.com (http://www.overtons.com) they are a boating supply place and I have ordered a lot of things from them for my boat. 303 has worked for years on my boats seats, they still look new after 6 years in the hot SE sun.
