Would anyone have the part # for the Hurst Compitition plus shifter adapter/mounting bracket for a Muncie with a 396? I have a 1957773 in my inventory but I think this is the small block bracket not the big block?

Heartbeat City sells the reproduction big block bracket.

I don't know if that part number is listed in the AIM, and am at work, so I can't check. The s/b are known as 9 hole brackets. How many on your bracket?

BTW the b/b bracket is scarce and expensive. Heartbeat sells a repop, but it's expensive too. If you are using the correct motor mounts and motor mount towers for b/b, the bracket is a must. Otherwise, the shifter will not align properly. Also, along with the bracket, you will need the b/b shifter rods. While I'm told you can get the s/b ones to work on the b/b, the geometry is wrong, so you might have shifting problems. If the b/b did not need special brackets and rods, the General would not have kept double inventory.

are you looking for the aftermarket Hurst bracket?
In my notes I show 1957773 as a Hurst part no. for a 68-72 Chevelle mount bracket. re-Check the Hurst web site to make sure

Yes, I was having shifting trouble with the set up I have due to the fact there was a past poor attempt to modify everything from the Z bar to the shifter linkage to make this BB application work. I have it all worked out including the Z bar and linkage rods, and now just need the BB mounting plate. The piece I had in inventory turns out to be a Hurst/Muncie adaptor plate for the round handle. I dont think I want to use a Muncie shifter if I want to eliminate shift problems! Anyway, thanks for the help and If anyone has the part number for the BB mount plate let me know.

It's an L35 69 Z11 that at one time in the early 80's had a SB donor motor installed while being used as a driver. The original block is now back in the car but I'd like to get the shifter linkage back the way it is supposed to be so I'm going to attempt to find the OEM. I have another 69 L34 Z11 but I cant see the part number with the shifter installed.

Thank you, that will help with the search. Strange it would be so different than the SB configuration. Not having a part # will make the search more interesting but at least I can eyeball it now if one pops up.

The reason it is so different is that the b/b is moved about 1" to the passenger side to clear the steering gear and angles back toward the diff. (It's about 3/8" at the shifter) In order for the shifter to penetrate the hump at the right location (particularly important on console cars) The deeper bracket moves the shifter toward the driver side the correct distance. However, that causes the shifter to be outboard from the tranny an extra 3/8"...hence the special linkage. I'm told you can adjust the s/b linkage to fit, but I've never tried. I was planning to use the entire s/b setup in my non-console Yenko Tribute, and cut the hump opening to fit, but I lucked onto a b/b setup by stopping by to chat with the owner of a 69 b/b rusting in a guy's driveway. He had replaced his originals with a parts store hurst, but fortunately kept his original. I was honest with him, and told him the value, but he thought that was rediculously high, so he sold it to me for significantly less than I offered. Can you believe it!! Worked out for GaryL too, as I sold him my s/b one.

You will pay thorough the nose for an OEM one, unless you get very lucky--assuming you can even find one. The Heartbeat City one is not cheap, but at least it is readily available. I seem to remember his was about $125-150. An original one would be 2-3 times that, I suspect. Can't remember the last time I saw one on eBay.

However, and L35 Z11 is worth the effort. BTW...make sure you use the 69 b/b mounts and towers, or you will have fitting problems at the firewall and the shifter. I have a set of 2nd design interlocking motor mounts that I did not use. ( I also had a set of NOS towers and 1st design motor mounts, that I used on my car) The 2nd design ones have a little thinner rubber block, so when I replaced my old 2 bolt 427 with my CE coded 4-bolt, I decided not to use them. (It would have dropped the motor about 3/8" to 1/2". One is NOS fo sure, the other might be aftermarket, but they are identical.
