I am converting a 350 automatic to a muncie 4 speed in my 69 camaro.
I have clutch & brake peddles from a 68 that I though I could get by with. They mounted fine, but I have more clutch peddle travel than brake peddle travel. The clutch peddle rests about 1 to 2 inches higher than the brake peddle. Are the peddles & peddle houseing that much different between a 68 & a 69?
I was thinking I might drill out the spot welds on the sheet metal bracket for the brake switch & rubber stop & re-weld it up further on the houseing in the arch of travel so the peddles are even.Has any one else ran into this problem? If so,what did you do to over come it?
Short of coughing up the bucks to buy 69 peddles,This sounds like my best option.
What yo you all think?
I wasn't sure where to post this,..here or in body? mabe in Interior?

Thanks for your help...Tom

Tom, on my manual brake 68, the clutch and brake pedal are even.

It seems logical that on a power brake car, the brake pedal would be lower

Don't know how the 69 pedals are different, but they are different.

The bracket that the pedals hang from is different in a 69 vs 67-68. If you go to Rick's website and look at part numbers PT-90 (67-68) and PT-91 (69), you'll see the difference. The stop bracket is a little further foward, so the 69 brake pedal has a little more curve to compensate. So, if you put a 67-68 brake pedal in a 69 bracket, it will be low. Clutch pedal is the same all three years.

Like Jim said, on a PB car the brake pedal is lower, dictated by the length of the rod on the booster.

Thanks,
I think I will try plan Z & re-weld the switch braket for more peddle travel.
I am not a purest,as long as it looks good & is functional ,I am happy.
Thanks again...Tom

I went the opposite direction, I actually shortened the master cylinder rod so that my brake pedal would be closer to the floor. Previously it was even with the clutch pedal that the distance from the gas pedal to the brake pedal was so great that my knee was hitting the steering wheel when I lifted my leg to hit the brakes. Admittedly, I am 6'3" so my legs are probably a little longer than others, but I just did not like the brake pedal being that high. Had I known I could simply have used the '67-'68 brake pedal, I would have done that.

Regardless, after modifying the brake pedal and fabbing up a new bracket for the brake switch, I am very happy with the results. I only moved the pedal down about 2.5", and it still has enough pedal to bottom out the master cylinder as I tested it before I finished the install. In fact, I could have (should have?) shortened the rod even more than I did so that the gas & brake would have been even closer to the same height.

Good point...
Mabe I should put the gas pedal in & see where it rests at.
I am only about 5ft.7".
A few phone books & I'll be able to see over the steering wheel!
Thanks again...Tom
