This number is stamped on the front of the block on the flat part under the alternator. ( V0217 )Could someone tell me what it means ?

V = Flint, Michigan (Assembly plant of your engine)
02 = Month of assembly (February in your case)
17 = Day of assembly (the 17th of February in your case)

There should be two (possibly three) letters that follow what you have so far. Tell us these letters and we can give you more info.
