View Full Version : Need help with rest of block/heads decode. Worth anything?

From what I was told was a 350 4-bolt main, here's what I've got so far:
3970010
I68 date code (looks like a 1, but figured it was an "I"),
V0913TBM
T97501310

Is this correct? A '69 truck engine (Sept. 6, 1968) with a VIN of 501310. I could not figure out the location for code #7. Is there anything else you can tell from these numbers?

The heads have:
3782461 on both of them, and have date codes of:
A29 5 & A28 5.

Are these January 28th and 29th, 1965 from Flint Michigan?
They don't have any bolt holes (for the accessories). I was told they were 2.02 camelback heads. Anyway to verify the 2.02? Do you just pull a valve out and measure it with calipers? I've got the covers off. I've read they could either be 1.94/1.50's or 2.02/1.60's with either 161/62cc or 160/62cc port volumes and either 62cc or 64cc combustion chambers. Kind of confusing.

Also, any idea what these are worth if I were to sell them? I was thinking of selling the heads on ebay, and trying to find someone around town to buy the block (because of the cost of shipping). Will engine builders (companies) buy the block at anything close to what it's worth? I was told probably a couple of hundred for the heads, I don't know what the block is worth, if anything, due to the block being mangled when a rod broke loose. I was able to continue driving it about a block to get it home. There is a small chunk taken out where the oilpan bolts on (see pic). If the cylinder walls are good, is the block probably okay? Is it worth anything more than just scrap metal at my local metal recycling yard? Is there anything else I can salvage from this? The crank? Thanks for any help.

my experience with core heads is not pretty

they are worth whatever scrap value is unless you catch a fish

same with the block

advertise them on drag racer sites, they don't care and actually want seasoned stuff

although I think you are SOL on the heads ...

1978 Truck engine...
They did not use 3 letter engine suffix codes in sept of 68. I do not believe that the 0010 blocks were even available till spring of 69...

So doesn't anyone know the city code for 7 on the block? I saw that it might be Lordstown Ohio, but then someone said that this was a later "7" (after they rearranged the codes a bit).

Bry68:

I disagree with Al8's assesement on the value of the block and heads.
Post them here and on E-bay, The Hump heads are always being sought after by buffs that what numbers matching. These heads if the valve is 1.94 is for a 327 250-300 hp and if 2.02 a 327 365/375 hp, which was commonly used in a Vette. The 010 block was common for a car truck, vette during 69. And was used for the Z28 302 in 69. Figure out what you feel they are worth and give it a shot.

Supply and demand will determine what they are worth.

It's a 1979 350/165hp 4-barrel automatic out of a full-size GMC van built at the Lordstown VAN plant.

I agree with Dave. If those heads are 2.02 they will be worth a fair bit as their application seems to be for high HP cars and if the right person is looking for those dates.... If you get the heads off you can usually tell 2.02 from 1.94 by how close the valves are to each other in one chamber. 1.94's have a gap and 2.02's almost touch.
