Does anyone know the best most correct way to mount the dust/dirt shields which protects the upper control arms to each inner fender well? My fender wells have holes for this but I thought some sort of staple was used to mount this sheild to the well.

if you search "splash shield" here on the forums, you'll get tons of info, including pictures.

They were randomly stapled, a process difficult to duplicate.

What I did [lots of work] was drill pairs of small holes about .375" apart and use stiff wire folded to simulate steel staples.

Thanks again for the info on the splash shield and mounting instructions. If I may I have a follow up question. It happens that my inner fender wells must be aftermarket. This fender well has 1/4" holes where the staple locations should be. I know now this is not correct. Do you have any ideas which would enable me to mount the shield rather than a pop rivit that could help correct my situation.

stiff stainless steel hobby wire from Ben Franklin, poke it thru and bend it over :thumbsup:

I use 3/8" and 1/4" SENCO brand staples (@1" long because that's the ones I nomally use in woodwork) as a base to form the correct staples.
You can get them at Home Depot or just about any building supply store.

I cut the legs back to @1/4" or so and insert them and carefully bend the ends over in a slight arch.

I also have 1/4 and 3/8 SENCO staple guns (SLS20 & SKS) and have given some thought to making a backing-block/former to allow me to just shoot them in - but, the idea of shooting one of these things towards my hand on purpose just gives me the :eek: 's.
I think I'll stick to shooting them into wood as intended for now ...

It was a huge pedestal-mounted air-operated Bostitch industrial stapler, fed by 25# spools of 14-ga. galvanized steel wire. I make my own staples from 14-ga. wire from the hardware store (blister-pack item); the ones that come with most of the repro shields are stainless, not correct, and are a bear to work with.
