I'm trying to lighten my 69z28 up for street strip use. I did a search but couldn't find ou the part number for aluminum rear drums and the weight difference. Also has anyone used the bolt on aluminum calipers kit sold by ssbc? Or any other suggestions? I am trying to just bolt on parts so I can go back to stock in the future if need be.

We went from stock GM discs to a Wilwood setup and saved about 20-25# per side.

wilwood brakes, including the alluminum calipers, .8" thick vented disks, and alluminum hubs, are VERY light.

JFYI, 0.810 discs should only be used if the car is used mostly on the strip...they are often too thin for medium weight cars on the street. I would recommend 1" thick or more.

Camaros do tend to be lighter so you can usually get away with it, though.

We used the .81" rotors on a long-distance road racing car and they worked very well. Just make sure you use the right pads.

the car weighed 3420lb's but is mostly a street car that competes 5 or 6 nights a year (street night). Will the wilwood calipers and rotors fit the stock z28 disc mounting brackets, and hoses?

How much did it weigh?

It was a 64 Nova, all steel, 10 pt cage, 400# of meat, spare tire, jack, tools, 16 gallons of fuel, I'd estimate 36-3700#

Ah that sounds about right.

BUT, with the increased fade resistance of the 1"/1.25" rotors, why not go with those?

The rotors had to fit in a 14" rim.
