I own a '93 Camaro with around 160,000 miles on it. Lately (within the past 1 week) I've noticed that when it shifts, it takes longer than normal (higher rpm's) and they only drop half a grand after shifting. From about 15 mph to 45 mph there is also a muffled grinding noise coming from the middle/right rear side. All the fluids/filters are changed frequently and have been for its lifetime. I don't drive recklessly or hard. I thought that it could be a lack of transmission fluid but I checked it and its clear and at the right level. Any suggestions would be awesome.

Whenever I have tranny issues, I always start by changing the tranny fluid and filter. 90% of the time, this will fix it up. Of course, it could be something else, but that's a relatively inexpensive procedure, especially if you can do it yourself.

Even under normal and easy driving conditions, there is wear on clutch discs in the tranny and that material gets trapped in the filter (by design), eventually restricting fluid flow. If fluid flow is restricted, well, it certainly won't shift properly.

As I said, it's a start. I'm not an auto trans expert, though I have overhauled a couple in years gone by.
